The Best NHL Props Bets

Cam Atkinson Over 2.5 SOG

(-120, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Atkinson has been one of our favorite players to target in the NHL shot prop game. He’s cleared 2.5 shots on goal in eight of his 12 games, and he’s averaging 3.0 shots per game on the season. He just so happens to have one of the best matchups on the slate as his Flyers skate in San Jose. The Sharks became the first team since the 1960s to allow 10 goals in consecutive games and with a loss tonight they’ll become the first team in NHL history to lose their first 12 games to start the season. They’re not just losing games, they’re getting blown out consistently.

The Sharks will win at some point, and it may even be here, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t shy away from attacking them. They enter with a -43 goal differential. They have 12 goals in 11 games, which is one less than Auston Matthews has on the season. San Jose have coughed up the third-most shot attempts, second-most shots and the second-most scoring chances at 5v5/60. No team has surrendered more high danger chances or goals (4.13) per hour at 5v5. The attempts should be there for Atkinson, and he may even hit the scoresheet, considering he has nine points in 12 games.

I listed a couple of long shot power play point props because the Sharks enter with the third-worst penalty kill percentage (67.4%).

Bonus

  • Cam Atkinson Point (-120, DraftKings)
  • Travis Konency O 2.5 SOG (-150, DraftKings)
  • Owen Tippett Point (-115, DraftKings)
  • Travis Sanheim Assist (+140, Bet365)

Longshots

  • Cam Atkinson Goal (+148, BetRivers)
  • Cam Atkinson Power Play Point (+340, Bet365)
  • Travis Konecny Power Play Point (+300, Bet365)
  • Travis Sanheim Power Play Point (+400, Bet365)
  • Konecny, Atkinson & Tippett O 2.5 SOG (+375, Bet365)
  • Konecny, Atkinson, Tippett & Sanheim Points (+625, Bet365)

Reilly Smith Point

(-105, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Smith has an impressive six goals and 11 points through his first 10 games as a Pittsburgh Penguin. He’s fresh off a four-point game where he picked up two points on the man advantage. The winger has shown great chemistry with Evgeni Malkin, and he was recently placed on the first power play with all of Pittsburgh’s top guys. That’s great news for his upside, especially when you consider the Ducks lead the NHL in penalties taken.

Bonus

  • Reilly Smith O 1.5 SOG (-150, DraftKings)
  • Frank Vatrano O 2.5 SOG (-130, DraftKings)
  • Mason McTavish Point (+115, DraftKings)
  • Reilly Smith Power Play Point (+360, Bet365)

Brandon Hagel Point

(-125, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Hagel scored his seventh goal of the season Monday and added an assist to give him 12 points in as many games. He logged a season-high 22:06 and even though he and the Lightning are playing on the road for the second straight night, they’re both in a good spot to score a few goals. It doesn’t hurt that Hagel is playing alongside Nikita Kucherov who has nine points in his last two games (20 in 12 games). We have him in the Bet Tracker for 2 points at +125. I’m still seeing a few books give +105 for Kucherov to pick up two points. I say Brayden Point, Kucherov and Hagel hit the score sheet Tuesday. The Habs lost all three games on their road trip, and they continue to be among the leaders in penalties taken. Tampa Bay’s power play is currently operating at 33.3% (second-best mark in the NHL).

Bonus

  • Nikita Kucherov O 1.5 PTS (+105, DraftKings)
  • Brandon Hagel Assist (+175, BetMGM)
  • Victor Hedman Point (-110, BetMGM)
  • Victor Hedman Power Play Point (+285, Bet365)
