NHL Prop Bets with Chris Meaney (10/18)

Welcome to the weekly edition of NHL Prop Bets with Chris Meaney. Each week I’ll share a few of my favorite NHL Prop Bets. There are eight games on the NHL betting slate for Tuesday.

The highest total game tonight is in Edmonton as the Oilers welcome the Buffalo Sabres to Rogers Place. All of Edmonton’s games have had a goal total that has been pushed to 7 before puck drop. The over hit in their first game and we saw a push in their second.

The contest of the night has to be at Scotiabank Saddledome between the Calgary Flames and Vegas Golden Knights. Both teams will put their perfect records on the line. The Flames have impressive wins against Edmonton and the Colorado Avalanche, and the Golden Knights have only allowed five goals in their three games against the Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks and Seattle Kraken. The Flames will be their toughest test to date.

The Best NHL Props Bets for Tuesday

Troy Terry Over 0.5 Points

Points -128, Caesars
Last week we discussed a few players who appeared in the Fantasy Hockey Draft Kit, including Cole Caufield and Artturi Lehkonen. This week we’re leading off with one of my favorite draft day targets in Troy Terry. The Ducks’ winger broke out with 37 goals and 67 points across 75 games last season and he’s showing zero signs of slowing down. Terry has three goals, six points and 13 shots through his first three games. He has at least a point and three shots in each game. He’s also +172 to pick up an assist and enters this game against the New Jersey Devils with three apples. This matchup between Anaheim and New Jersey carries a goal total of 6.5 and I have a lean to the over. The Devils have allowed 10 goals through their first two games and last season they ranked third in goals allowed at 5v5/60 (3.21). It’s early, but it looks like they still have issues in goal. Consider the over 2.5 SOG at +102 at BetRivers.

Boone Jenner Over 2.5 SOG

+103, BetRivers

Jenner has had at least three shots in each of his first three games this season. He doesn’t have a goal to show for it, but he’s logged a lot of ice time. The Blue Jackets’ captain plays in all situations (PP & PK) and he’s centering the number one line with playmaker Johnny Gaudreau. Jenner is averaging 20:43 this season, up from a career-high 20:27 a year ago. It’s a small sample but he’s averaging 3.6 shots this season after averaging 2.7 last season.

Jack Hughes Over 0.5 Assists

+128, FanDuel Sportsbook

I’m going back to the Ducks/Devils contest in New Jersey. Anaheim played Monday and allowed six goals to bring their total to 17 allowed through three games. They’ll turn to back up goalie Anthony Stolarz, who actually played Monday. He allowed three goals on 20 shots in his two relief appearances for John Gibson. Stolarz had decent numbers last season and it’s tough to come into a game cold, so we can give him a pass on both occasions. but he’ll be tested early and often. New Jersey ranks first in shot attempts, shots, scoring chances and expected goals at 5v5/60. They had strong possession numbers last season as well, they just couldn’t get the goaltending, which resulted in high total games. The over has hit in both of their games this season and I think we’ll see it hit again. Jack Hughes has yet to pick up a point, but he’s had eight shots in over 46 minutes of ice time. He had 24 assists in his final 34 games last season.
