NHL Prop Bets with Chris Meaney (10/12)

Welcome to the weekly addition of NHL Prop Bets with Chris Meaney. Each week I’ll share a few of my favorite NHL prop bets. There are six games on the NHL betting slate for Wednesday, Oct. 12, including the oldest rivalry in the NHL.

The Montreal Canadiens welcome the Atlantic Division favorite Toronto Maple Leafs to the Bell Centre. These two original six clubs are set to play in the highest total game on the slate as the over under is set at 7.
The Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche will raise their third banner in Ball Arena before playing in the biggest mismatch game of the night. The Chicago Blackhawks have the lowest team implied total on the slate after they traded almost all over their talent away in the offseason. The Avs enter as -400 favorites.

We also have another high total game in Edmonton as the high-flying Oilers welcome the Vancouver Canucks to Rogers Place. I think we’ll see at least seven goals in the Oilers and Canucks games tonight, so consider some NHL Props in this Pacific Division showdown. Other matchups this evening feature Johnny Gaudreau’s debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets vs Brent Burns’ debut in Carolina, and David Pastrnak vs Alex Ovechkin.

Below you’ll see a list of a couple of my favorite NHL props for Wednesday. Be sure to check out our FTN Bets Tracker for more! The Best NHL Props Bets

Cole Caufield Over 2.5 SOG

-130, DraftKings Sportsbook
I think we’ll soon see Caufield’s shot prop move to 3.5 as he begins his sophomore season tonight against the Maple Leafs. As mentioned in the Fantasy Hockey Draft Kit, Caufield had two very different seasons as a rookie. He only mustered 14:40 per game over his first 29 contests and he only registered one goal and eight points over that span. The Habs made a coaching change and Caufield flashes his true upside. The sniper scored 22 goals and had 35 points in 37 games under Martin St. Louis. He was moved to the first line and first power play where averaged 18 minutes per game as a result. He cleared 2.5 shots on goal in 11 of his final 16 games, and he had nine shots with three goals in the season finale. Over his 37 games with St. Louis, Caufield averaged 3.1 shots and in his three preseason games, he finished with three goals on 14 shots. This kid loves to shoot the puck. DraftKings has the best odds on Caufield to have three shots

Mitch Marner Over 0.5 Assists

-115, DraftKings Sportsbook

Sticking inside the same between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs because we have a seven-goal total. Mitch Marner’s point prop is -250. Vegas believes Marner is very likely to get a point, and why wouldn’t they? Marner racked up 97 points in 72 games last season and he opens up his 2022-23 campaign with a matchup against the league’s worst team from last season, with probably the worst defensive core in the game. 62 of Marner’s 97 points were assists (19 PPA) and he plays on a line with Auston Matthews, who is fresh off a 60-goal season. Marner’s a pass first guy and Matthews is a finisher. These two likely connect on a couple goals.

Artturi Lehkonen Over 0.5 Points

-133, Caesars

I’m very high on Lehkonen this season, as he’s in a great spot to succeed. The former Hab will play on the top line with Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. The Avs have the highest team implied total on the slate and could easily score 5-6 goals against Chicago. Lehkonen had six goals and nine points in 13 regular season games, and he followed it up with 14 points in 20 playoff games. He did all this while playing a career high 17:07. He scored some big goals en route to winning the Stanley Cup and it’s a big reason why the Avs extended him in the summer. Consider +250 for an assist as well. Not only will he play on the first line but he’ll play on the first power play.
