We have eight games on the NHL DFS slate for Saturday, with puck drop set for 7 p.m. ET on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The following NHL DFS value plays can be rostered as one-offs or you can pair them up with their linemates. I tend to attack power plays but there are solo plays that make a lot of sense for the cash game players out there. Below you’ll see my favorite values, plays, stacks and fades.
If you’re looking for a larger breakdown check out Fantasy Hockey Picks & Bets. It’s a five-day-per-week show, but I host Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Jonathan Marchessault, W, Vegas Golden Knights
($4.6k DraftKings | $6.0k FanDuel)
The Golden Knights should be the chalk again, especially when you consider Shea Theodore, Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty are all underpriced. Chandler Stephenson is also a value as he’s on the No. 1 line with and power-play with Stone and Pacioretty. I have zero issues with Pacioretty, and I think he’s a fine cash play, but I’m going back to L2.
Consider having some exposure to William Karlsson’s line with Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith. Karlsson has four two-point games in his past seven contests and 10 points in his past 10 games. Marchessault has seven goals on the season and Reilly Smith scored his first goal in 11 games Friday. It was only Smith’s fourth goal of the season, but he entered Friday’s matchup against the Sharks with a career-low shooting percentage. Smith scored 27 goals last season, so the goals are coming, and he may find the back of the net again given the matchup.
San Jose has allowed the second-most goals, the fifth-most scoring chances, and the sixth-most high-danger chances at 5v5 per 60 minutes, according to Natural Stat Trick. They’ve also surrendered the seventh-most shots at 5v5 per hour and they rank sixth in penalties taken per 60 minutes. Vegas could easily put up another five goals in the rematch. Karlsson, Marchessault and Smith all play together on the PP as well.
He’s also repping a career-low 7.7% shooting percentage.
Kirill Kaprizov, W, Minnesota Wild
($4.4k DraftKings | $5.1k FanDuel)
Kaprizov’s price on DraftKings and FanDuel actually went down despite two points and three shots on goal last night against Arizona. He gets the Coyotes again Saturday and I think everything I said Friday (see below), applied here again for the rematch.
DraftKings and FanDuel adjusted Mats Zuccarello’s price but they’ve forgotten about Kaprizov. The duo has combined for 19 points over their past nine games. Kaprizov has three and eight points in his past seven games. The rookie winger ranks among the leaders in primary assists and he’s starting to shoot a bit more (12 SOG last 3), which is great news considering the Coyotes have allowed 92 shots in their past two games. Overall, he has 17 points in 20 games.
Updated: The duo of Kaprizov and Zuccarello have combined for 21 points over their past 10 games. Kaprizov has 10 points in his past eight games and 15 shots over his last four games.
Nazem Kadri, C, Colorado Avalanche
($5.7k DraftKings | $6.0k FanDuel)
Kadri logged a season-high 22:14 Friday against the Ducks and he should flirt with that number again with Nathan MacKinnon sidelined. Kadri played all 15:38 of his 5 on 5 minutes with Mikko Rantanen, which is exactly what you want to see. Neither hit the score sheet but they had six shots on goal. Kadri, Rantanen, and Gabriel Landeskog led all lines in the game with 12 shot attempts, six shots, five scoring chances, and three high-danger chances at 5 on 5. The Avs should see Ryan Miller who has allowed at least three goals in four of his five starts (.894 SV%).
Vladimir Tarasenko, W, St. Louis Blues
($2.5k DraftKings | $7.0k FanDuel)
Tarasenko is set to make his season debut against the Kings, and I guess DraftKings wasn’t expecting it because he’s min price. Tarasenko only played 10 games last season but had 10 points. He’s one of the best snipers in the game as he scored at least 33 goals in six straight seasons before last year’s campaign. I expect him to play 17 plus minutes on the top line with Brayden Schenn and David Perron. I’ll probably avoid him on FD, but his price is too nice on DK to pass up.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, C, Montreal Canadiens
($2.9k DraftKings | $3.9k FanDuel)
I haven’t played Kotkaniemi all season and I’m into Connor Hellebuyck here, but the young Canadiens center is in a good spot. Kotkaniemi will center Tyler Toffoli and Josh Anderson. Toffoli leads Montreal with 14 goals and Anderson ranks second with nine. Kotkaniemi also receives power-play time on the second unit.
Ryan Suter, D, Minnesota Wild
($3.7k DraftKings | $3.9k FanDuel)
Suter didn’t work out for us last slate, but he put four pucks on the net and played a season-high 5:48 on the power-play. He took Mathew Dumba’s spot on the No. 1 unit, which is very valuable given the way Kaprizov and Zuccarello have looked of late. Dumba is still a fine play but Suter is cheaper and played 24:25 last night compared to 21:30 from Dumba (1:29 TOIPP).
