Between the Pipes: NHL goalie plays for DFS March 30

Hockey season is in full swing. There is one position we should focus on which is a very important piece in hockey and NHL DFS — the goaltender. With each set of games, one of us on the FTN hockey team will break down the day’s goalie slate for DFS.

While it’s obviously important for your DFS choice at goalie to get a win, it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s not always the best strategy to simply pay up at the top for a goalie on a strong team expected to win. For cash, sure — but if we’re talking GPP then we want to reach our extreme potential. Target goalies who will likely see a lot of shots and have a chance to win the game.

It’s important to follow along closely and to keep checking Daily Faceoff for confirmation of each goalie. Better yet, reach out in our Discord chat or to @chrismeaney@jprellezodfs or @russ1prentice on Twitter.

Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida Panthers

Is it becoming too obvious that I’m a fan of the Panthers? All joking aside, this is an incredible spot. The Panthers were dealt a huge blow defensively with the injury to Aaron Ekblad, but I feel they can still hold their own here. Given Bobrovsky hasn’t been amazing this year, there is concern on upside, but we target Detroit in offense and defense. I love him to get the win here.

Jaroslav Halak, Boston Bruins

The Devils aren’t always a walk in the park, but they are also a team that doesn’t strike fear into our hearts. Ever since their COVID-19 outbreak internally, this team hasn’t been the same. You add the Bruins are one of the best defensive teams and we have Halak as a core goalie. I do fear the Devils don’t put ton of shots on net, but I like the chances of Halak winning.

Alex Nedeljkovic, Carolina Hurricanes

I feel I write Nedeljkovic every time he’s on the slate. This guy is the real deal and has a monster upside behind him. The Chicago Blackhawks are an offense that is top five in shots on goal per game. You add that the goals scored don’t match that of shots on goal and you get the upside for Nedeljkovic. It’s not the best spot tonight, but he’s got the highest upside for me by a wide margin.

A few starters are yet to be announced, so stay tuned in to the NHL Discord.
