Between the Pipes: NHL goalie plays for DFS August 8

The NHL playoffs and DFS hockey are back hot and heavy; with each set of games, Chris Meaney, Russ Prentice or I will break down the day’s goalie slate for DFS.

While it’s obviously important for your DFS choice at goalie to get a win, it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s not always the best strategy to just pay up at the top for a goalie on a strong team expected to win. For cash, sure, but if we’re talking GPP we want to reach our extreme potential, so I tend to target goalies who will likely see a lot of shots and have a chance to win the game.

The Saturday slates start early, and the schedule is jam-packed, but I have a pretty good idea of who will get the call in net. It’s important to follow along closely and to keep checking Daily Faceoff for confirmation. Or better yet, reach out in our Discord chat or to @chrismeaney, @jprellezodfs or @russ1prentice on Twitter.

Carter Hart, Philadelphia Flyers

Before you call me crazy, hear me out. Tampa has come out flat with the restart and they have no Steven Stamkos. They aren’t putting up a ton of shots, but I expect that to change Saturday. Flyers have a stingy defense, but I believe Hart will have to make a ton of saves so he’s my favorite on the Saturday slate, especially at his price.

Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning

It’s a two-game slate and I want to avoid the goaltending of the Knights/Avalanche game. The Flyers have looked amazing since the restart, but they have a tough matchup with the Lightning. I see a lot of shots and minimal goals Saturday for both teams, so lock up one of these guys for your lineups. Remember: It’s a two-game slate; we don’t have many options.
