Week 1 NFL picks for JockMKT

What is JockMKT?

JockMKT is a fantastic new fantasy football platform that combines the financial market and sports. Bidding on a player as an IPO and getting paid out where they finish on the day. Example: “If fifth place overall is worth $20, and Tom Brady finishes with the fifth-most points, then every user holding Tom Brady receives $20 per share.” It is a fun way to try and buy low on top targets that week who have big time upside and can pay off their IPO price.

How does bidding work?

Bidding is very similar to Ebay. You enter a max bid and JockMKT will only use your max bid on players if needed. If no one competes you will get the player at their initial offering.

Five players with massive ceilings to bid on

I am looking for guys who will be priced near their floors in terms of final positioning but have an opportunity to finish near the top of the rankings this week.

One feature I love on JockMKT is that, as IPOs are live before you bid on a player, it lets you know what place the player will need to finish in order to break even. Below, I look at five players who I think can pay off in a big way and where to stop bidding on them.

Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Bid until QB5

In three starts last year, Jalen Hurts finished as QB13, QB1 and QB12. With a massive rushing floor and in a pace-up spot, Hurts has the ceiling of QB1 overall on the slate. Last year, the Falcons allowed the fourth-most scramble yards to quarterbacks, which is bad news when you are facing a starter in Hurts who ran for 238 yards in his three full games. With a new weapon in DeVonta Smith and a healthy offensive line, I think Hurts finishes as a top three overall quarterback this week.

Najee Harris, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Bid until RB10

Najee Harris is going to go overlooked on JockMKT as the rookie is behind a bad offensive line as 6.5-point road underdogs. Harris is going to be a bell cow back against a run funnel defense, and even if the Steelers are down, he is a stellar pass-catching back. Typically, a back playing more than 80% of the snaps will have a top-five price tag; take advantage of the rookie discount.

Julio Jones, WR, Tennessee Titans

Bid until WR8

Bidding on this game in general is enticing, as both the Cardinals and Titans are top five in pace and both teams have abysmal secondaries. Julio Jones will face off against a rookie corner in Marco Wilson and a veteran in Robert Alford who hasn’t played since 2018. Jones averages more yards per game than any receiver in NFL history and now gets a quarterback who is efficient in the red zone. He has WR1 overall upside

D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers

Bid until WR12

Moore is one of my favorite receivers in football, as he is the only receiver to have 1,200-plus scrimmage yards in back-to-back seasons. The yards have been there — he went for over 93 yards eight times last season, one of only three receivers to do that — but the touchdowns haven’t. However, he saw 37% of the team’s end-zone targets last year and should get improved quarterback play this year. Against a Jets secondary starting three players in their first or second year (all fifth-round picks or later), look for Moore to have his way with the Jets

Corey Davis, WR, New York Jets

Bid until WR20

Corey Davis might not be sexy, but he will be reliable. Fed targets in the preseason, he is set to lead the team in targets and provide an extremely high floor. If he can find his way into the end zone against a below-average Donte Jackson, he has a chance to be a-top 12 receiver on the week. His volume floor in this game makes him extremely enticing as he will likely be priced at his floor, and only really offer upside for your shares.
