Tyreek Hill 2022 Prop Bets: Receiving Yards, TD Predictions

Tyreek Hill has been one of the best receivers in football over the past four years, and he was one of a handful of wide receivers to change teams this offseason. Hill ended his Chiefs’ tenure last season with an electric 111 catches for 1,239 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2021. 

After playing most of his career with Patrick Mahomes, Hill will now have Tua Tagovailoa as his quarterback. Many pundits around the league believe this to be a massive downgrade for Hill, and DraftKings Sportsbook has Hill’s receiving yard prop set at 1,025.5, over a 200-yard drop from his total last season. Hill has eclipsed this total in four of his six seasons as a professional. 

On the touchdown front, after going for nine receiving touchdowns last year, DraftKings has Hill’s receiving touchdown total set at 8.5. Hill has had 9 or more receiving touchdowns in just three of his six NFL seasons. 

Hill’s 2022 outlook comes down to two key factors. These factors are (1) if you are bullish on Tagovailoa and his ability to improve as a passer and (2) If you believe Mike McDaniel can scheme Hill open and get creative with getting him the football in space. Tua had some great moments last year as well as some dud performances, and McDaniel is a rookie head coach, so it is tough to make this evaluation.

It is not debatable that Tua is a downgrade from Mahomes. Tagovailoa showed a massive lack of arm strength last season and Hill’s game is predicated on being a deep threat. However, Tua has a unique skill set that I believe complements Hill’s game as well, just in a different fashion.

How Many Receiving Yards will Tyreek Hill Have in 2022?

Tyreek Hill is one of the fastest players in the NFL, maybe the fastest, and he has proved time and time again that no one can guard him one and one down the field. He had the benefit of playing with Patrick Mahomes, who has one of the strongest arms in football, throwing him bombs for Hill to come down with. However, this will not be the case this season in Miami. 

Looking at Tua and his strengths, one thing that stands out to me is his accuracy in the middle of the field. Tagovailoa may not have the arm strength of some of the NFL’s top QBs, but he has pinpoint accuracy from 1-20 yards and he often hits his receivers right in stride or he can place the football where only his target can make a play. 

The combination of Hills’ track speed and Tua’s accuracy in the short game makes for just as deadly a combo as Mahomes going deep to Hill in seasons past. Hill is definitely sure-handed, but he is not as great of a natural pass catcher as some of the other elite WRs in the league. Hill makes up for this with speed — with the football in his hands no one in the NFL can catch him in the open field. 

With that said, I anticipate McDaniel to scheme up plays for quick passes to Hill. This will allow Tua to play to his strengths and get the ball out quickly and accurately, and it will be up to Hill to do the rest. Since Hill is so speedy, if he gets a step on a defender, even if it is 15 yards from the line of scrimmage, a quick pass from Tua in stride to Hill could lead to a big play on every single down. 

Hill’s yard-after-the-catch ability is unparalleled, and I actually believe it will be on display more this season than it ever was. Hills’ skillset is etched in stone – it will be up to McDaniel and Tua to play their part in helping him be the Cheeta we know and love as fans. 

How Many Touchdown Receptions Will Tyreek Hill Have in 2022?

As I mentioned above, I am bullish on the Tua-to-Hill connection in Miami next season and I can see Hill hitting paydirt nine or more times next season. While Hill will not be hauling in 60-yard bombs from Tua and walking in for touchdowns, Hill will have the ability to make plays with his legs after the catch, which is his best trait. 

With Hill being able to take short passes to the house, another reason why I like this bet is that Mike McDaniel can use Hill in different packages near the goal line. McDaniel can create an entire package surrounding getting Hill forward flip passes near the line of scrimmage where Hill needs to get to the pylon for the score. No one can run with Hill, so if McDaniel can get Hill in space, and Tua can get Hill the ball, good things will happen. 

It is always tough to predict touchdown output since there are so many factors to put into play and so much uncertainty, but I am confident in Hill’s ability to reach the end zone. With a player as unique as Tyreek Hill, just getting him the ball is the first step, and he has shown he can do the rest with his legs.
