Looking for a last-ditch effort at “spring cleaning” your dynasty roster? As we move through the heart of rookie draft season and into the first tastes of camp hype, I’ve got four more names to Buy or Sell in your ongoing pursuit of fantasy football roster perfection! And if you’ve got any specific trade questions, slide into my DMs (@MattOkada on Twitter)!
Dynasty Moves to Make: Sells
Brandon Aiyuk, WR, San Francisco 49ers
Typically, I’m a fan of “trusting the talent” in dynasty. Situations change, fluke seasons happen, but talent usually wins out. And I believe Brandon Aiyuk has talent. But at some point, when the results are consistently worse than the expectations, we have to face the music. Aiyuk has had one great fantasy football season, when he finished as the WR14 in 2023. Last year, while we primarily remember his season-ending injury, Aiyuk had been almost exclusively awful before the injury, with one finish inside the top 40 wide receivers through seven weeks. And that was despite leading the team in targets over that span. Jauan Jennings and George Kittle were far more effective, and while Deebo Samuel is now gone, Ricky Pearsall and Christian McCaffrey were both absent for that awful stretch and will be present in 2025.
Now, he’s recovering from the torn ACL and MCL, and will likely start the season on the PUP list and miss at least a month. Upon his return, he’ll likely be less efficient for some time (perhaps the remainder of the year), as skill-position players usually are following these knee injuries. It would be surprising to see him finish as a WR3 or better in 2025, and it would not be surprising to see Pearsall (and Jennings) step up as the lead wide receiver(s) on this team in the meantime (with Kittle and McCaffrey also heavily involved). Aiyuk’s consensus value reflects these concerns, having cratered from WR14 a year ago to WR35 today, which almost makes him worth holding for a good game or two midseason. But that’s putting a lot of eggs in one fragile and inconsistent basket. Instead, consider selling low on an asset that may never regain his former value.
Assets I’d trade Aiyuk for: Jayden Higgins or rookie pick at Round 1-2 turn, T.J. Hockenson (see below)
