Prime-Time First TD Bets — Thursday Night Football, Week 2

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books, and Week 2 brings a chance for us to pick a first touchdown scorer. There have been four prime-time games so far, and all four have seen a lead running back be the first player to get across the goal line. These things happen, but over the long run, it’s all but impossible to keep winning money while backing players priced from 500 to 700. A player would have to score the first touchdown about four times in 17 games at those prices. Only 12 players scored four or more first touchdowns last season and only five of those 12 players were listed as the favorite in those games. It’s tough going a whole week without a winner, but we’re focused on the long term.

Thursday, the Buffalo Bills go to Miami to face the Dolphins in a matchup of AFC East teams. Division games are generally played closer than other games. Teams know their opponents better and are more familiar with what to expect. In the five games these teams have played against one another over the past two seasons, players like Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harry and Salvon Ahmed have scored six for their teams. Since you are likely a football fanatic, you may recognize those names, but they are certainly not Lumineers of the game and definitely were not expected to score. I, like I usually do, have looked further down the list of odds to score first tonight and am betting on these guys to surprise by getting into the end zone before anyone else.
