PointsBet is a full-service online sportsbook. They have not been around as long as some of their competitors, but they have done a good job building brand awareness quickly. PointsBet started as a bet type and they grew the online sportsbook around this niche game. Instead of just betting an over or under on a prop number, PointsBet allows you to bet how far over or under that number will go. This was a unique bet type they offered which helped them create some buzz when they launched.

The bonus at PointsBet is up to $250 on your first deposit. They also run offers for risk-free first bets if you want to try out the points betting product. I highly recommend taking advantage of that deposit bonus and using the balance to take advantage of the risk-free first bet as well. Offers like those will not be around long and they do give you a very good chance to make some money as you get reimbursed on that first bet if you lose.

Does PointsBet have a mobile app?

Yes they do. They have both a mobile and a desktop app. The mobile app is fine, but PointsBet is one of the few providers where I actually prefer using their desktop app to the mobile. The mobile layout is a little clunky and slow to load. It has improved and I am sure it will continue to, but it is not in the same class as some of the more seasoned mobile providers.

How to Download on iOS

It is as simple as going to the App store to Download it. You do have to sign up for an account first in order to log into the app, but you can do that before the download or click a link from the app to do so if you are not already signed up.

How to Download on Android

Android downloads require an extra step since PointsBet is not in the store. You have to go to the website and download it directly from where you sign up. If you sign up first, you will see the download prompt after you complete your sign up. Once downloaded, just make sure you give the app permission and then you are good to go.

PointsBet does not offer as many ways to fund as some of its competitors, but it does offer all the main ways. You can fund it directly from a registered bank account, you can use certain credit card types, they have a PayNearMe option which allows you to deposit cash at nearly 30,000 locations countrywide. They also offer mobile solutions like PayPal, Echecks, and direct debit card deposits. They do not yet offer some of the less traceable account funding options like buying one of those prepaid cards in your local grocery store, but that is actually a good thing in terms of compliance. 

What is PointsBetting?

PointsBetting is the proprietary wager that differentiates PointsBet from it’s competitors. Here’s how it works: Rather than just betting on a set number being over or under, you are paid based on how far over or under the final tally was. For example, a typical spread wager pays out around -110 if you correctly choose the winning team and they win by the margin of points you have to lay. With PointsBetting though, your payout or loss is based on how many points above or below that final score was. If you bet $100 per point on a team at -3 and they win by 7, you would get $100 times the difference (7-3=4) or $400. You can see how this could give you explosive upside if you end up on the correct end of a blowout with your team handing out the beatdown. Remember though, nothing in life is free and easy. Sure the upside is enormous with points betting, but the downside is too. You win money based on the number of points above the book’s number, but your potential losses are also based on how many points your team underperforms. If your team gets blown out, this could end up costing you a lot of money. No risk, no reward for sure.

Overall, I think PointsBet is a slightly above-average sportsbook. They are young and do have room to grow. This is not a negative on them by any means. They are above average across the board in terms of funding options, bet menu and user experience. They do have a lot of bonuses and odds boosts which are better than many of their competitors. Are they a top-three sportsbook available online? Probably not, but they are in that next tier of options right behind the industry leaders. Considering the scale of their competitors, this is not a bad thing to be stalking those giants with much more marketing muscle and way bigger checkbooks.
