It finally feels like we’re getting to the end of the “preseason” portion of the NFL regular season, and things are as wild as ever. This week’s edition of “Dynasty Moves to Make” has a heavy influence on early season performances and how to make the most of a few of them.
As a reminder, buying doesn’t mean getting a player for Trey Lance and a case of Crystal Pepsi. Selling doesn’t mean you must rid your rosters of said player for 10 cents on the dollar. When players are improperly valued, take advantage.
Dynasty Moves to Make: Sells
Justin Fields, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
How quickly people forget that Justin Fields couldn’t beat out 35-year-old Russell Wilson at the start of the preseason. Fields got the nod in Week 1 after Wilson was unable to play due to a lingering calf injury. The Steelers are winning, but Fields has been his typical mediocre self. He can run, but he can’t throw.
Per FTN StastsHub, his 6.9 yards per attempt ranks 24th in the league, and he’s bottom five in both air yards per game (149.7) and average depth of target (6.0). Week 3 was the first time Fields has thrown for multiple touchdowns since Week 5 last season. Fantasy managers can become intoxicated with potential. Serve up the Justin Fields Elixir right after his superb outing to sell high and sell fast.
Players I’d be willing to trade Fields for 1 for 1: Sam Darnold, Derek Carr, Michael Penix Jr.
Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers
Thank Andy Dalton for the boost in value for Chuba Hubbard, who went for 114 yards on 21 carries, five passes for 55 yards, and a touchdown in Week 3. While Hubbard’s value bump will be brief, thanks to Jonathon Brooks’ expected return to the field, I still think there is a move that can be made. You’re looking for two targets in your league with a potential Hubbard deal — the first is whoever has Brooks on their roster. You can pitch Hubbard as a startable piece until Brooks returns and his handcuff after. If that doesn’t work, look for someone who needs a short-term fill-in, even just one week. If you can move Hubbard for anything of significance that can help you long-term, that’s a huge W.
Players I’d be willing to trade Hubbard for 1 for 1: Braelon Allen, Ray Davis, Tank Bigsby
