Moves to Make Now in Dynasty Fantasy Football (7/19)

With the NFL preseason creeping up and those offseason FAAB dollars mere weeks from wasting away, I thought I’d debut my world-renowned annual (I hope) “Check the Wire” edition of “Dynasty Moves to Make.” A recent practice I’ve picked up is running through all my dynasty waiver wires a minimum of once a week, and I’ve been surprised at some of the low-roster percentages for potentially viable assets. These are not must-add players by any stretch of the imagination. But if you’ve got some dead weight at the end of your bench, they’re worthy of a stash.

Dynasty Moves to Make: Check the Wire

(Players rostered in roughly 50% or less of Sleeper leagues)

Justice Hill, RB, Baltimore Ravens

With Gus Edwards “bolting” for Los Angeles (I’m so sorry) and Keaton Mitchell not expected to return until “sometime during the season,” according to head coach (and FTN fan) John Harbaugh, Justice Hill finds himself as the backup to Derrick Henry. As I discussed on the “For The Numbers” Podcast, the Ravens are notorious for their committee approach to the running back position, and Hill will see touches. He’ll help keep the 30-year-old King Henry fresh throughout the season and can also contribute in the passing game. If Henry were to miss time, Hill would be the starter in one of the league’s most prolific run offenses. He should be rostered everywhere.

Jameis Winston, QB, Cleveland Browns

The Deshaun Watson trade may go down as the worst in NFL history, as Watson has come nowhere near his Houston production for the Browns. Jameis Winston could start the season under center as Watson may not be ready to go Week 1 due to a shoulder injury that cost him most of 2023. We saw 38-year-old Joe Flacco join the Browns off the couch and lead them to the playoffs. If the Browns are winning and Winston starts the season hot, could there be a push for him to keep the job? Doubtful at best, but Winston should be rostered in all superflex leagues. It’s more likely than not he’ll make starts this season.
