Skyy Moore Could Be Salary Cap Casualty

The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes that the Kansas City Chiefs could release wide receiver Skyy Moore this offseason and save $1.6 million on the 2025 salary cap, according to Over The Cap. Moore would leave behind just $467,819 in dead money. The 24-year-old former second-round pick (54th overall) in 2022 out of Western Michigan has really struggled in his three years in the NFL and hasn't earned much of a role on offense. The Chiefs can also create more salary cap space this season by converting a large chunk of quarterback Patrick Mahomes' $32.3 million roster bonus into a signing bonus. Moore dealt with an abdominal injury in 2024 that landed him on Injured Reserve for the majority of the regular season, and he wasn't able to return in the playoffs. He played in just six regular-season games and didn't record a single catch. Moore has 43 catches for 494 yards and one TD in 36 games to this point.

Chiefs Re-Sign Keaontay Ingram

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed running back Keaontay Ingram to a Reserve/Futures deal on Thursday. Ingram will stick around with the Chiefs this offseason after inking a one-year deal with the team a year ago. The 25-year-old former sixth-round selection (201st overall) by the Arizona Cardinals in 2022 saw 62 rushing attempts for 134 yards (2.2 yards per carry) and one touchdown while catching eight of nine targets for 47 yards in 20 games (one start) in his first two years in the league with Arizona. He spent most of the 2024 season on the Chiefs' practice squad and was active for only one regular-season game on Sept. 22 in a win over the Atlanta Falcons, but he wasn't involved at all on offense. Ingram will continue to train with KC this offseason and will be hoping to do enough at training camp this offseason to win a 53-man roster spot as RB depth.

Chiefs Re-Sign Anthony Firkser To Futures Deal

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed tight end Anthony Firkser to a Reserve/Futures deal on Wednesday. Firkser began the 2024 season with the New York Jets before finding his way to the Chiefs and ending the year on their practice squad. The 29-year-old tight end was active for seven total games with the Jets and Chiefs last season but was not targeted at all on offense. He will now stick with Kansas City and train with the team this offseason before trying to grab a 53-man roster spot this summer in training camp as depth at the position. The Harvard alumni debuted in the NFL in 2018 with the Tennessee Titans and spent his first four years in the league in Tennessee before bouncing around with the Falcons, Lions, Jets and Chiefs. Firkser has caught 115 passes for 1,207 yards and five touchdowns on 153 targets in his seven years in the NFL.

Justyn Ross, Tyquan Thornton Signed To Futures Deals

The Kansas City Chiefs signed wide receivers Justyn Ross, Tyquan Thornton and Jason Brownlee, safety Deon Bush, tight end Baylor Cupp, defensive tackles Siaki Ika and Fabien Lovett, offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick, quarterback Chris Oladokun and cornerbacks Darius Rush and Eric Scott to Reserve/Futures deals on Tuesday. Ross and Thornton are the biggest names of the group. Ross, 25, spent the majority of the 2024 season on KC's practice squad and didn't catch his only target while being active for two regular-season games in Weeks 9 and 10. The former undrafted free agent out of Clemson caught six of 11 targets for 53 yards and no touchdowns in 10 games in his rookie season in 2023. Thornton, 24, was a second-round pick by the Patriots in 2022 out of Baylor but was waived in November after catching four of eight targets for 47 yards in six games for New England.

Travis Kelce To Take His Time On Retirement Decision

On his New Heights podcast, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said that he is planning to take his time this offseason as he decides whether to retire from professional football following a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. "I'm gonna take some time to figure it out. And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back that it's gonna be a wholehearted decision and I'm not half-assing it, and I'm fully here for them," Kelce said. "I think I can play, it's just whether or not I'm motivated or it's the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility." The 35-year-old 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro managed 97 receptions in 16 regular-season games but had only three touchdowns and 823 yards, his fewest since his rookie season when he played just one game. If Kelce does return in 2025, he'll still be on the TE1 radar in fantasy, but his days of being the first TE off the board are over.
