Jets take Zach Wilson at No. 2, Fantasy Impact

Once the Jets’ designs on an 0-16 campaign ended late in the 2020 season, the team’s eyes moved past Trevor Lawrence, ultimately landing on BYU QB Zach Wilson, who the team took second overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft Thursday.

The #Jets pick is and it’s #BYU QB Zach Wilson. Now, the fun begins. The #49ers are on the clock.

The Jets stick with Wilson, who will now replace Sam Darnold at quarterback. Not many signal callers would find success under Adam Gase and with those playmakers so Wilson walks into a more friendly environment than Darnold was ever in. He has a rocket arm and can make all of the off-platform throws, though I worry about how little experience he had under serious duress behind BYU’s dominant offensive line. There will be some hiccups along the way, but Wilson will enter the season as the Day One starter, which makes him a viable option in two-quarterback formats, while I think his aggressive play style could help a player like Denzel Mims make a second-year leap. He ranked third in the nation in deep passing yards last season (1,286). — Adam Pfeifer
