The Arizona Cardinals added some backfield help Tuesday, signing ex-Steelers RB James Conner, per Jay Glazer of FOX.

Conner, the Steelers’ third-round pick in the 2017 draft, had a big year in 2018, totaling 1,470 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns en route to a PPR RB6 finish. Injuries and reduced effectiveness held him to 715 yards in 2019 (RB35) and 936 in 2020 (RB27). He now heads to Arizona, where he’s likely to form a tandem with holdover Chase Edmonds.

Cardinals add RB help with James Conner signing

Fantasy slant: With the departure of Kenyan Drake in free agency, the Cardinals needed another back to pair with Edmonds, who only has three career games with double-digit carries, only two with more than 11. Conner slipped some, and struggled with health, the last two years in Pittsburgh, but he's shown that when he's right he can be a very productive back. Still, Edmonds is probably the top name in this backfield for fantasy, albeit not by much. If you're drafting any Cardinals backs in fantasy this year, Edmonds will be a high-end flex play, with Conner a bit further down. — Daniel Kelley
