After three years in Jacksonville, veteran tight end Evan Engram found a new home in Denver Wednesday, reportedly signing with the Broncos on a two-year deal worth as much as $23 million.

Engram, a first-round pick of the Giants in 2017, had three career top-five PPR finishes in his eight season (TE5 in 2017 and 2022, TE2 in 2023), with at least 11.5 PPR points per game — a number that works out to about 200 points in a season, a top-five figure last year — five times. His best career season came in Jacksonville in 2023, when Engram set career highs in targets (143), receptions (114, fourth among all players) and yards (963) along with 4 touchdowns. He dropped off last season, missing eight games to injury and seeing his yards per target drop from 6.7 to 5.7 despite identical 5.6-yard aDOTs, per FTN’s StatsHub.

The Jaguars released Engram last week as part of a cleaning house, with Brenton Strange slated to take over as the starting tight end. There’s a path to a lot of targets for Strange now, considering the relative lack of targets Jacksonville has behind Brian Thomas Jr.

Engram was immediately linked to the Broncos, as Denver head coach Sean Payton has been seeking a good receiving tight end since joining the franchise. He turns 31 in early September, so he’s very likely past his peak. That said, it’s not a deep target pool in Denver behind Courtland Sutton (who himself has been rumored to be on the trading block). So even if Engram isn’t the most efficient tight end, there’s plenty of room for him to command another big target load in 2025. He’s only topped 4 touchdowns in a season once, and that was as a rookie in 2017, so it’s not reasonable to classify him as a big scoring threat and that will likely keep him from having a shot to contend for the top of the tight end class. That said, a back-end top-10 TE finish is within the reasonable range of outcomes for Engram in Denver, contingent on who else the team might bring in this offseason.
