The Dallas Cowboys return home to Jerry World in Arlington, Texas, for Week 3 after a two-game road trip to start the 2021 season and find a familiar foe will be there to welcome them back in the Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams sit at 1-1 in the NFC East, with the Cowboys winning vs. the Chargers in Week 2 while the Eagles fell flat at home against the 49ers. The Cowboys opened as 3.5-point home favorites for this divisional showdown.

Latest Eagles-Cowboys odds

Looking for the latest odds for this matchup? Here they are.

Opening odds – Eagles vs. Cowboys

After opening as 3.5-point favorites for lookahead lines, oddsmakers have shifted the odds to Cowboys -4 with just over 60% of early betting action on Dallas. Being a public team, the Cowboys always seem to get more action than they should, and I expect that number to shrink closer to 55% with it being a divisional matchup in primetime.

As for the total, oddsmakers have set a total of 51.5 with early money on the OVER at 55%. It remains to be seen what type of offense we’ll see with both teams having mixed results on the scoreboard in Week 2.

Quarterback analysis – Jalen Hurts vs. Dak Prescott

Week 1 almost felt like a coming-out party for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as he torched the Atlanta Falcons for three passing touchdowns and 62 yards rushing. The Niners caught on to those tendencies and limited Hurts to only 190 yards passing in Week 2 while only completing 52.2% of his passes. When Hurts faced the Cowboys in 2020 at AT&T Stadium, he looked lost as he was limited to 53.3% passing and two interceptions in the 37-17 loss.

As for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys, the quarterback was below average in Week 2. The Chargers completely pushed him and the Cowboys offensive line around, but he still was able to complete 85.2% of his passes. Even if he wasn’t able to throw for a touchdown in Week 2, Prescott has not been deterred in passing from the pocket as he didn’t try to scramble once in the win over the Chargers.

Latest Eagles betting news & info

I think everyone drank the Kool-Aid on the Eagles after their Week 1 win, because they were one of the most popular bets in Week 2 as home underdogs against the 49ers. The Eagles seem to hold their own as they moved the ball down the field effortlessly in the first half but in the second half, they had no answer for San Francisco’s pass rush as Nick Bosa got two sacks and the Eagles could only muster 11 points through four quarters.

Since the start of the 2020 season, the Eagles are 2-7 ATS in road games and 2-4 ATS as an underdog. One of those road losses was vs the Cowboys as 3-point favorites and lost by 20 points with Hurts at quarterback.

Latest Cowboys betting news & info

As the president of the Pragmatic Dallas Cowboys Fan Club, I don’t want to get too hyped over a win over the Chargers and moral victory vs. the Buccaneers. The Cowboys still have a lot of work to do defensively and are in a bit of a dilemma themselves when it comes to running back. Ezekiel Elliott is the starter and the player who got the big contract, but he isn’t doing as much with his touches compared to Pollard, who had over 100 yards rushing on 13 carries and 31 receiving yards on three catches. Having talent is a good problem to have but expecting the Cowboys to manage it properly is a fool’s errand.

Instead, let’s focus on the positive, which is the Cowboys are 2-0 ATS this season after starting 2020 0-8 ATS in their first eight games. This is exactly the type of game where Dallas blows it though and makes me feel like an idiot for buying back into the hype.

Eagles vs. Cowboys betting picks – NFL Week 3

Most of the public action is on the Dallas Cowboys -4, and that spread is a little too much for the Cowboys in a divisional game. I hate to use the term “trap” for a spread but oddsmakers, have moved this line to a point where any true bettor should be very scared of backing Dallas in this scenario. Instead, the best bet is likely the O51.5 points as I expect both offenses to rebound in Week 3 and neither defense has shown through two weeks that they are world-beaters.

Here are our betting picks for Eagles vs. Cowboys in Week 3.
