The Philadelphia Eagles added some desperately needed receiver help in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft Thursday, trading up to the Cowboys’ No. 10 pick to draft Alabama WR DeVonta Smith.
(Check out the FTN DeVonta Smith scouting report here.)
Smith, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner, had 1,856 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns in 2020, including a 12-catch, 3-TD, 215-yard game in the National Championship Game against Ohio State despite missing most of the second half of that game. He immediately jumps to the top of the Philadelphia depth chart ahead of Jalen Reagor and Travis Fulgham, and assuming 2020 rookie QB Jalen Hurts can perform, Smith should be a low-end WR2 from the start, and his big-game potential could give him a high weekly ceiling. — Daniel Kelley
