Davante Adams Finds New Home with Rams — Fantasy Reaction

Future Hall of Famer Davante Adams is on the move again, reportedly agreeing to terms with the Los Angeles Rams on a two-year deal Sunday. Adams was able to sign before Monday’s legal tampering period thanks to being released by the Jets earlier in the week.

The 32-year-old Adams had 85 catches for 1,063 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2024, split between the Raiders and the Jets. It was his fifth straight 1,000-yard season and his eighth time finishing as a PPR WR1 (top 12) in the last nine years, with a WR23 season in 2019 breaking up the string.

Even at 31 last season, Adams showed he was still a top-flight receiver. Per FTN StatsHub, from Week 7 (when he joined the Jets), Adams was fourth in targets per game (10.4), 10th in catches per game (6.1), 11th in yards per game (77.6) and carried a 34.4% red zone target share (second). The age cliff will catch up to him eventually, but there’s not much reason to think he’s anything but a top-flight receiver right now.

The thing is, the Rams already have one of those in Puka Nacua, who has averaged 88.4 yards per game over his first two seasons, including 1,486 yards as a rookie in 2023. Adams will certainly be the primary red zone weapon of the two in Los Angeles, but both command elite target shares, so the Rams might have two WR1s and then no other pass-catcher worth much of anything in fantasy. Still, there’s every argument to draft both Nacua and Adams within the top 15 at the position (if not higher). And Matthew Stafford’s stock is extra high right now with those two weapons. His lack of rushing limits his ceiling, but Stafford can be a back-end QB1 with health in 2025.

There wasn’t much suspense left, but this move all but cements Cooper Kupp’s departure from Los Angeles. The soon-to-be 32-year-old had 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last year, but his numbers tailed off badly late in the season. He’ll land somewhere soon and will be an intriguing fantasy option when he does, but he’s far from a guarantee given his age and injury history.

The only other real domino from this move is that it locks in that Adams will not follow long-time teammate Aaron Rodgers to his new team. Rodgers will still be interesting wherever he goes, but less interesting without his elite target along with him.
