Last season, Davante Adams finished with 1,553 receiving yards — good for second in the NFL — and 11 touchdowns. Fast forward to 2022, and Adams will be donning a new jersey for the first time in his career. In his new situation in Las Vegas with his ex-collegiate QB and roommate in Derek Carr, Adams should walk into Las Vegas with a ton of comfort. Not to mention, the Raiders also hired a new head coach in Josh McDaniels who is known for his offensive playcalling prowess.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Adams’ receiving yard total is set at 1,200.5 yards and his touchdown total is set at 10.5. Oddsmakers believe Adams will go under his 2022 total in both receiving yards and touchdowns caught, but not for no reason.
The Raiders have a stronger cast of offensive weapons than the Packers did, and having options like Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller available to Carr may leave Adams without as many receiving yards. However, the reverse could be true, and since defenses need to stop more than just Adams, he may be able to run rampantly and have another dominant season.
Adams has gotten better throughout his career, but this will be his first season without a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball. Adams has also mostly been durable, missing just three games in the last two seasons.
Let’s take a look at Davante Adams’ 2022 NFL props and let’s break down if oddsmakers are right to believe Adams will regress in the 2022 NFL season.
Davante Adams Prop Bets for 2022
(All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)
How Many Receiving Yards will Davante Adams Have in 2022?
Over 1,200.5 (-115)
Davante Adams was far and away the best receiving option on the Packers over the last few seasons, and he ended last year with 123 catches on 169 targets for 1,553 receiving yards. Adams will now be playing with a downgrade at the QB position and with two other pass-catching options who may decrease his targets, receptions and receiving yards for the 2022 season.
However, I do not believe this is the case. I actually believe that having Waller and Renfrow running routes with Adams will help him, not hurt him. Opposing defenses cannot use all their resources to shut down just Adams since the Raiders have other threats. Also, just like in Green Bay the past three seasons, it does not matter if the defense knows the ball is going to Adams, he can still make a play.
Since Carr and Adams have familiarity from their time together at Fresno State, I anticipate this connection to be just as solid as the Rodgers to Adams connection was in Green Bay. Also, the Raiders would not have given Adams such a massive contract if they did not think he would be a focal point on offense. Throw in offensive mastermind McDaniels calling plays, and I think Adams will certainly eclipse the 1,200.5-yard mark.
How Many Touchdown Receptions Will Davante Adams Have in 2022?
Under 10.5 touchdowns (-130)
Scoring touchdowns have some of the highest season-to-season variances of any stat. It is very common to see a receiver go from a low touchdown total to a high one the next season and vice versa. For example, Adams had just five TD catches in 2019, 18 in 2020 and 11 in 2021.
Looking at his 2022 outlook, I do not anticipate Adams hitting paydirt 11 times next season. The Raiders have too many other offensive weapons like Waller, Renfrow, Jacobs, and Drake. Smart defenses will try to double Adams around the goal line giving more red zone opportunities to his aforementioned supporting cast on offense.
While I do believe in major situations Carr will look for Adams to score touchdowns, 11 receiving touchdowns are just such a high number. Only five players had more than 10 TD catches last year with Adams being one of them. I do not think Adams will finish with less than five touchdowns, but I do know that 11 is quite a hard-to-hit mark for wide receivers.
