Buccaneers pick QB Kyle Trask, Fantasy Impact

Share

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the oldest quarterback in football, so they grabbed a potential replacement at the end of the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft in Florida QB Kyle Trask.

(Check out the FTN Kyle Trask scouting report here.)

Trask was a Heisman finalist in 2020, when he threw for 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns for the 8-4 Florida Gators, leading all of FBS in passing touchdowns. He’ll be behind Tom Brady in Tampa, but if all works out he could become the heir apparent.

Tom Brady may have joined the Bucs and won a Super Bowl in Year 1, but the team is already making long-term plans by selecting Trask with the last pick of the second round. The sixth QB taken in the draft, Trask led the SEC with 43 TDs last year while throwing for 4,278 yards. It was a big jump for Trask after he threw for under 3,000 yards and 25 TDs in 2019. Similar to Brady, Trask has a good arm but no mobility, which is not ideal for fantasy. Trask does get to go learn from the GOAT, and the Bucs have phenomenal offensive talent, but whether he plays next year (with most of the talent still in place) or in three years (with new faces everywhere) remains to be seen. He’s a dynasty stash for those that have deep benches. — Tyler Loechner
