In a surprise move, the Kansas City Chiefs released both starting offensive tackles, Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, Thursday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Adam Teicher.
Fisher has appeared in 117 games, with 113 starts, for the Chiefs since being selected No. 1 overall in 2013. He's coming off a torn Achilles suffered in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. Schwartz, on the other hand, played in 134 games (all of which were starts) and was named to four separate All-Pro teams (one first-team, three second-team) during his tenure. Schwartz is coming off a season-ending back surgery.
Analysis: The Chiefs broke out the scissors, cutting their tackle duo of Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz. The moves save Kansas City roughly 17 million against the cap. Both players were subject to injuries last season. Fisher suffered a torn Achilles against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs while Schwartz was limited to six games with a back injury. The Chiefs will have options on the board in the first round of the NFL Draft (31st overall) to reload on the line.
