BREAKING NEWS: Jason Verrett re-signs with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers and CB Jason Verrett reportedly agreed on a one-year deal Monday that would keep him with the team, according to 49ers GM John Lynch.

Verrett joined the 49ers before the 2019 season after spending his first five years with the Chargers. Injuries limited him to no more than six games in five of his first six career seasons (the one time he exceeded that number, 14 games in 2015, he made the Pro Bowl), but he was rejuvenated in 2020, playing 13 games for the 49ers.

Fantasy slant: Keeping Verrett in house is a wise move for the 49ers with Richard Sherman and K'Waun Williams likely to walk in free agency. A former first-round pick, Verrett battled injuries over his first six NFL seasons, playing just 26 games over that span. But he managed to play 13 games in 2020 and was one of the league's better corners, allowing just 8.9 yards per catch. — Jeff Ratcliffe
