Bengals reunite Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, Fantasy Impact

Share

After three quarterbacks and a tight end went off the board to start the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals went for another offensive weapon at No. 5, drafting WR Ja’Marr Chase out of LSU.

(Check out the FTN Ja’Marr Chase scouting report here.)

Chase teams back up with his ex-LSU teammate QB Joe Burrow with the Bengals, where he’ll run alongside Tyler Boyd and 2020 rookie Tee Higgins as the team’s top receivers.

Chase reunites with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, forming a very fun trio at receiver for the Bengals. The top receiver in this class, we last saw Chase in 2019 when he was dominating against press coverage at 19 years old, despite facing top-tier talents like Trevon Diggs, A.J. Terrell and C.J. Henderson. He’ll give Burrow a fantastic option deep down the field, as Chase hauled in 24-of-36 deep targets in 2019, while resulting in a near-138 passer rating when targeted on passes 20 yards or more down the field. Chase’s arrival hurts the ceiling of Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins, though the Bengals will run a ton of three-wide sets, so playing time won’t be an issue. Chase has WR2 upside alongside Burrow, while the latter should be viewed as a back-end QB1 on draft day. — Adam Pfeifer
