Summary
Omarion Hampton had to wait to get a shot to lead the Tar Heels backfield, but as soon as he did it was electric. He has rushed for back-to-back 1,500-yard seasons, leading the ACC in both years. In 2023 he was tops in the ACC with 15 rushing touchdowns, and his 15 in 2024 ranked second. That was all on his way to back-to-back first-team All-ACC honors.
Standing 6-foot-0 and 220 pounds, Hampton has ideal NFL size, marrying it with freakish speed. Hampton is rumored to run inside the 4.3 range in the 40-yard dash, which does not surprise me — he is a very bursty runner who excels when running north/south. His lengthy strides give him good straight-line speed, allowing him to cover ground quickly, marrying this with an ability to shorten his stride to decelerate quickly. He leaves some to be desired in the linear speed department but offsets this with a smooth transition from linear to downhill flipping his hips and exploding with ease. He also leaves some to be desired in the endurance department, as we see him get run down multiple times on tape.
His work behind the line of scrimmage is impressive. He presses the line of scrimmage aggressively with the lateral agility and explosion to then expose over committed defenders. The vision pops off the screen too, showing a natural ability to find creases or holes that many backs would just pass by. Hampton has an ability to get small and compact through the line making it hard for defenders to slow him up through the line. Allowing him to explode into the second level where his speed takes over, but he does leave us wanting more in the elusivity department in one-on-one situations. On the flip side, his power and contact balance help make up for this, appearing like a bowling ball once mover downhill bouncing off would be tacklers.
Hampton is above average In the passing game, racking up over 600 yards and 70-plus receptions. He has soft hands and is comfortable catching within and outside his frame. Hampton is more than a receiver though, displaying a natural ability to identify and pick up free rush defenders. He needs to work on his overall technique but is very willing to attack and even anchor defenders.

Fantasy Outlook
Omarion Hampton has the capability to be a three-down back, giving him significant upside, but the issue will be if he is given the chance to prove that at the NFL level. More teams are leaning toward the committee backfield. If he becomes a committee back, it’s more likely he is relegated to an early-down role, limiting his upside. This could still cultivate RB2 numbers in the right offense, but we see plenty of these players fail to be consistent assets.
