SuperDraft NBA DFS Picks (1/20)

With three games on Thursday’s slate, let’s get into some of the multiplier plays over on SuperDraft.

Guard

Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks (1x score multiplier) – It’s another short slate Thursday as the frustrating NBA DFS schedule for the week rolls on. Luckily these games have a lot of interesting options for us to break down on the SuperDraft slate. We’ll start up top with Doncic, who did his best to compete with the other monster performances on Wednesday’s massive 13-game slate, finishing with 71.5 SuperDraft points. It’s his second straight game eclipsing the 70-point mark on SuperDraft, although it should be noted that the last two outings were Luka’s highest and third-highest minute totals in a game to date this season. We should not be surprised to see his minutes take a dip back to his normal 35 here, but that shouldn’t deter us from rostering the young phenom on this slate. He’s averaged just shy of 50 SuperDraft points per game in his last three matchups against the Suns while shooting 24% from three, and with his guard and forward eligibility, is my favorite lower multiplier piece of SuperDraft lineups on this slate. 

Josh Hart, New Orleans Pelicans (1.5x) – Hart has been a fantasy darling at times this season, with a high-floor/high-ceiling combo that gives him a ton of upside at his 1.5x multiplier. The matchup against the Knicks isn’t great as the Pelicans possess the lowest implied team total on the slate as of this writing, but Hart’s production is so safe that I have a lot of interest at his multiplier. Hart contributes consistently in all five categories, and is usually good for at least one make from deep, so we have all kinds of ways to rack up the fantasy points. Since Christmas (a nine-game sample size) Hart has averaged 37.1 SuperDraft points per game with a ceiling of 59.5 and a floor of 22 (foul trouble). With the 50% bonus on his fantasy points, he’s my favorite play in this range at guard.

Forward

JaVale McGee, Phoenix Suns (1.65x) – The fun really begins at forward. Deandre Ayton will remain out for the Suns here, and we should see McGee pull another start. Although he was overshadowed by Bismack Biyombo from a fantasy standpoint last game, but still picked up just over 23 minutes of time. That’s plenty to consider McGee on such a short slate at this multiplier with forward eligibility. He’s always been a fantastic fantasy producer, and even in limited time over the last three games we can see that play out, averaging 1.26 SuperDraft points per minute (including his down game last time out). I would be slightly more hesitant on McGee if he didn’t have his forward eligibility, but when we’re able to roster him here and still get another center into our lineups, he becomes a priority for me on SuperDraft, especially in tournaments, as long as he remains the starter.

Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors (1.7x) – I told you the fun was at forward Thursday. The Warriors rookie with the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) nickname in the draft class is going to remain in the starting lineup while Draymond Green is on the mend, following some very solid performances with his extra opportunity. After playing 36 minutes back in December in the game the Warriors left their starters at home while they played in Toronto, Kuminga has received his next three highest minutes totals over the last three games. He’s averaged 1.23 SuperDraft points per minute over the last three, and at his multiplier is a fantastic option with Otto Porter joining Draymond on the sidelines. 

Center

Jonas Valanciunas, New Orleans Pelicans (1.2x) – Back to the Pelicans here, this time in the frontcourt. The center position leaves a lot to be desired on this short slate, but Valanciunas stands out to me as the clear priority. He’s been a monster this season, averaging 18.5 points and 12 rebounds a game (plus some other peripheral stats for good measure) and with this game projected to stay close I have a lot of love for him in this matchup. He’ll face the likes of Mitchell Robinson and Taj Gibson, neither of whom have much of a chance to stop Valanciunas. We already saw this play out the first time these two teams met all the way back on Oct. 30. Nerlens Noel was out in that game too, so Valanciunas will look to top his 27-point, 14-rebound, 4-assist performance (50.5 SuperDraft points) against the same Knicks frontcourt tandem. At his 1.2x multiplier, he likely doesn’t need to match that massive outing to be the center we want in our lineups at the end of the night, but it would also not shock me to see him put up an even bigger fantasy score in this spot.
