Welcome to Hoops with Noops. Tuesday brings us the first NBA Cup Championship. OK, yes, that is a technicality since it took the NBA a year to figure out “NBA Cup” was a better name than “In-Season Tournament,” but this is the same league that can’t think of a better name for the “Play-In Tournament,” so let’s be happy that the NBA PR team is at least trying.
In all seriousness, I think the NBA Cup has been a big success. Of course, it is not on par with winning the conference finals let alone the NBA Finals, but it’s given us some great games in November and Dember. Historically, the first few months of the season have been fraught with concerns about player availability and team’s level of effort. The point differential in the group stage has led to teams playing all 48 minutes and the games in the knockout round have had a playoff feel to them.
Tuesday should be a good finale to what has been a good tournament, and even better, it offers a chance to win a wager. Here’s my best bet for the NBA Cup finals.
