Trust the Gut: Fantasy Baseball FAAB Guide (Week 27)

Share

Here we are – the final free agent bidding period of the 2024 fantasy baseball season will come and go as we sweat this final week, take a well-deserved break (well, some of us), then dive right back into prep for the new draft season.

In this week’s episode of the FTN Fantasy Baseball podcast, Jason Anthony (Booms) and I discussed a few specific FAAB and lineup-setting strategies for the final week. As we remain laser-focused on every at-bat, stat and roto category gains/losses, there are ways we can optimize our priority bid groups and benches for this final period. Some of these tips came from the previous week’s podcast with Mike Mager.

    • Shoot for 5-6 total bench hitters. Leave one pitcher on your bench in case of Monday morning news that might impact the nine pitchers you have locked in.

    • Stream a third catcher to maximize the final two scoring periods, if you find the right combo.

    • Don’t be afraid to drop anyone on your roster you absolutely won’t start in the final week.

    • Be mindful of SPs whose starts might be cut short. Spend the extra time searching for news or manager quotes on your targets. I’ll update anything I find here.

    • View this final week as a game within itself that has two scoring periods. Set your lineup up to maximize at-bats, starts or specific stats that will help you gain category points you need.

    • Don’t just focus on what categories you can catch up in, but also what categories you might get caught in. Just like when we’re kids and were given directions for crossing the street – look both ways (in this case, up and down).

This has been an amazing fantasy season, and I hope you found this column helpful. Writing it helps me stay in tune with the entire player pool and be able to provide the best advice I can. I feel like I’ve also grown as a player, have been making more optimal FAAB/lineup decisions and keep the psychological side of fantasy baseball at the top of my mind. On that topic, Adam Young wrote a fantastic piece that I recommend you read.

I’ll be back Sunday evening with one final update. Booms, Mager and I plan to host a livestream show next Sunday, so please stay tuned for those details. In the meanwhile, stay focused and I wish you the best of luck as we sweat out this final week of the season and take home some league and overall titles.
