Stat Hero PGA picks for the Masters

The PGA Tour’s first major has finally arrived, as we get the second Masters Tournament in just under five months. Due to some scheduling changes over the course of the 2020 season, the Masters was played this past November. Now we get back to Augusta National under normal circumstances for the 2021 Masters Tournament. This year’s field consists of 88 total golfers, in which the top-50 and ties will make the cut. While there are a few key stats to weigh in this week at Augusta, recent form and course history are more important here than anywhere else on the PGA Tour.

Here is a look at my favorite plays on StatHero for the Masters:

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau was the talk of the town the last time around at the Masters as everyone expected him to over-power Augusta National, only to finish T34. He’s in elite form and is the class of the field off the tee. 

Justin Thomas

In his five starts at Augusta National, Justin Thomas has gotten better each time around. His best finish came this past November, where he finished in fourth place by himself. Thomas won the Players Championship just a few weeks back and will look to continue his recent success at the Masters.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth is coming off of a much-needed win this past week at the Valero Texas Open, just in time for the Masters. He has elite course history at Augusta, with a win in 2015, and three additional top-three finishes. With the way his game is trending, who says he can’t go back to back?

Matthew Fitzpatrick

If you’re looking for a golfer in good form, look no further than the Englishman Fitzpatrick. The 16th-ranked player in the world has finished T11 or better in each of his past four starts on the PGA Tour. He’s now made the cut in five straight trips to Augusta.

Paul Casey

He’s made the cut at the Masters in five of the past six years, with three being top-10 finishes. Casey has been extremely consistent as of late, making nine straight cuts. This run he’s on includes a win on the European Tour, and four additional top-10 finishes.

Jason Day

Prior to his missed cut last year, Day had made seven straight cuts at the Masters. This run that began in 2013 included three top-10s, and just one finish outside of the top-25. He’s quietly trending upward, making four straight cuts on the PGA Tour. In his T35 at the Players, Day was second in the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green.

Lee Westwood

Another Englishman who’s been making noise in 2021 is the 47-year-old Westwood. Thanks to his back-to-back solo second-place finishes in March, he’s up to 20th in the world ranking.

Victor Perez

Playing a majority of his golf on the European Tour, Perez is making a name for himself in the states. With back-to-back top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, Perez is in as good of form as anyone. He made his debut at Augusta last year, finishing in a tie for 46th.

Corey Conners

One of the most elite ball-strikers in the field. Conners has had a pair of top-10 finishes in his past three starts, which includes a solo-third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He finished T10 at the Masters just a year ago, and was T46 in his debut back in 2019.

Jason Kokrak

Yet to miss a cut in 2021, Kokrak has been a different golfer over the past six months. Kokrak has turned in top-10 finishes in each of his past three starts on the PGA TOur, all coming in strong fields.
