Cincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 26-year-old has struggled at the plate lately so they will give him the day off to rest. Santiago Espinal will get the start at third base, while Jeimer Candelario gets the nod at first base against right-hander Landon Knack. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.
Cincinnati Reds infielder/outfielder Spencer Steer got the scoring started in Wednesday's 6-2 loss on the road to the San Diego Padres, smashing his fourth home run of the 2024 regular season and stealing a base. Steer took Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove yard for a 412-foot bomb to deep left center in the first inning, continuing what has been a prolific start to the campaign for him. The 26-year-old left fielder is building on his 2023 breakout thus far, slashing .252/.364/.450 with four long balls, 22 RBI, 18 runs scored, and eight stolen bases through 132 trips to the plate (31 outings) for the Reds. On tap for Steer is a three-game weekend series starting on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. In three games against Baltimore last season, Steer hit .400 (4-for-10) with one big fly, three RBI, three walks, and one pilfer.
Cincinnati Reds utilityman Spencer Steer continued his hot streak in Monday's 6-3 extra-innings win over the Phillies, going 2-for-5 with a double, a 10th-inning, go-ahead grand slam, and a strikeout. The 26-year-old has started 2024 where he left off in 2023, slashing .400/.471/.733 with seven RBI and a stolen base in his first 17 plate appearances. His multi-position eligibility and strong lineup context should keep Steer as a valuable fantasy asset in the early going.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder/infielder Spencer Steer chipped in three runs during Wednesday's 19-11 Cactus League win over the San Francisco Giants, going 2-for-3 with a walk. It was certainly a high-scoring affair on Wednesday, and Steer was able to maintain his strong spring returns. In 26 spring training at-bats, the versatile 26-year-old is batting .296 with an .836 OPS, one home run, five RBI, and three stolen bases. After his first stint in the big leagues went poorly in 2022, Steer was a revelation for the Reds a season ago and finished sixth in National League Rookie of the Year voting via a .271/.356/.464 slash line, 23 homers, 37 doubles, 86 RBI, and 15 stolen bases across 665 trips to the plate. Steer is a 2024 regression candidate due to his .252 xBA and .417 xSLG on Statcast, but his position eligibility is appealing, and Noelvi Marte's 80-game suspension means Steer will be needed for everyday ABs during at least the first half in Cincy.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Spencer Steer slugged a solo home run as part of a 2-2 tie on Thursday versus the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old didn't waste much time as his first homer of the spring got the Reds on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Steer impressed in his first full tour through the big leagues in the 2023 season, hitting .271 with 23 home runs, 15 stolen bases, 86 RBI, and an .820 OPS across 156 games and a hefty 665 trips to the plate. It was a big turn of events following his 28-game debut in the 2022 season in which he limped to a .211 average with two homers across 108 plate appearances. He projects for some regression with 20 homers and nine steals in the 2024 season and could be overvalued with a 114.6 ADP.
