Chicago Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd (5-3) suffered his third loss of the year in a 2-0 decision against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Although Nationals lefty MacKenzie Gore outdueled Boyd, the Chicago southpaw was terrific in his own right. He chipped in 7 1/3 innings of two-run, four-hit ball while striking out six and issuing only one walk. Boyd, who has totaled five quality starts in six chances since the beginning of May, is thriving in his first season as a Cub. The 34-year-old has logged a 3.01 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 16 walks in 68 2/3 innings. He'll go on the road to face a formidable Philadelphia Phillies offense on Monday.

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd improved to 5-2 in his 11 starts with the Cubs, with a 3.08 ERA, 3.44 FIP, and 1.26 WHIP overall on the season. He gave up just one unearned run in six innings with eight strikeouts and four hits allowed to the Rockies in his team's 2-1 win. He has been especially sharp at home, going 5-0 in five starts at Wrigley Field with a 2.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 3.50 FIP. He has 32 strikeouts in 30 innings at home and has held opponents to a .298 wOBA in those five outings. The veteran lefty has been a key part of Chicago's rotation, and he's scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Nationals next Wednesday. He has been strong enough to be a mixed-league option in favorable matchups, and especially when pitching at home.

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd allowed four hits and three earned runs in Saturday's 7-3 win against their cross-town rivals, the Chicago White Sox. Boyd struck out eight and walked none to earn his sixth quality start (third straight), improving to 4-2 in 2025. He was mostly excellent, but ran into trouble with the long ball as Chase Meidroth and Timothy Elko both tagged him for solo home runs in the first and fifth innings. It's been more of an issue for him recently, letting up four of the seven against him across his last three outings. Still, the veteran was solid again, as he's yet to yield more than three earned runs in any of his nine appearances. Boyd will carry a strong 2.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP into his next trip to the mound, which figures to come against the Cincinnati Reds late next week.

Chicago Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd picked up a quality start in a 9-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Boyd allowed two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out seven and not issuing any walks. The veteran southpaw only made one mistake in the form of a two-run homer to Luis Matos in the fourth inning. Boyd is putting together an excellent first season with the Cubs, posting a 3-2 record, 2.75 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts over 39 1/3 innings of work. He will look to keep it rolling in his next start, which will be Sunday against the New York Mets.

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd was excellent on the mound during Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres. The left-hander seemingly had no issues as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out five batters in the win. I don't think too many people had Boyd throwing 11 scoreless innings to start the season on their 2025 bingo cards. The 34-year-old has been incredible to start the season, but will run into a tough matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start. It's understandable if fantasy managers are hesitant to add Boyd ahead of this start.
