San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports that San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Lou Trivino (elbow) is fully healthy after having Tommy John surgery and was able to throw live batting practice at camp on Wednesday. Trivino said his new UCL "was like changing the transmission." The 33-year-old veteran pitcher had TJ surgery in May of 2023 and was only able to make a handful of minor-league rehab outings last year. If he doesn't have any setbacks with his right elbow in spring training this year, Trivino could win an Opening Day bullpen role in San Francisco as a middle reliever, but he probably won't be on the fantasy radar at all. The former 11th-round pick by the Athletics back in 2013 out of Slippery Rock University does have 37 career saves in five MLB seasons, but he last pitched in the big leagues in 2022.

Trivino underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. He was given a brief look at the minor leagues late last season but could not return to the majors. Trivino logged six innings of work at the Triple-A level and allowed five earned runs with a 4:6 BB:K ratio. He made his last appearance in the majors during the 2022 season, where he split time with the Athletics and Yankees. Across 53 2/3 innings, Trivino held a 4.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP. He struck out 67 batters and tallied 11 saves. He generated a strong 52.3 percent ground-ball rate. Fantasy managers should expect Trivino to compete for a spot in the San Francisco bullpen during spring training.

Trivino is already drawing interest from several teams, and the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Guardians, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals were among the teams in attendance and came away impressed, according to a source. The 33-year-old veteran was working to return from Tommy John surgery in 2024 before his rehab was shut down in September due to a shoulder injury. Trivino has not pitched in the big leagues since the 2022 campaign but could be a useful high-leverage setup man somewhere in 2025 if he proves he's past his arm issues. In five big-league seasons, he has a 3.86 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 37 saves in 284 2/3 innings pitched.

New York Yankees right-handed reliever Lou Trivino (elbow) had his minor-league rehab assignment moved from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. He had five outings for Somerset and allowed just one run on three hits over five innings while walking two and striking out five. Manager Aaron Boone said on Aug. 25 that Trivino's repertoire "continues to improve each time." The skipper also said Trivino was initially "a little slow coming back," but there has been "steady improvement in his stuff and the crispness and the quality." The 32-year-old veteran had Tommy John surgery in May of last year and then had a setback in April due to right-elbow inflammation. Trivino hasn't pitched since 2022, so expecting him to have a big role down the stretch and in the postseason for the Yankees this year isn't realistic.

The 32-year-old had Tommy John surgery on May 3 of 2023 and has now experienced a setback. The good news is he's only dealing with inflammation, so it's not too big of a setback for the right-hander. As long as he doesn't have any more setbacks with his elbow this year, Trivino will most likely be working towards a return to New York's bullpen around the All-Star break this summer. Trivino split the 2022 season with the A's and Yankees, posting a 4.53 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP, 11 saves, 24 walks and 67 strikeouts in 53 2/3 relief innings.
