Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty will draw the first assignment post-All-Star break in Friday's series opener at the Rogers Centre against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 28-year-old former Cy Young Award candidate in 2019 has returned to form in the Motor City in 2024, posting a 3.13 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with a scintillating 119:14 K:BB across 95 innings (16 starts) thus far. Flaherty looks to keep the good times rolling on Friday in Toronto, and he's set up as a great fantasy bet across all formats to begin the second half. In three appearances against the Blue Jays in his career, Flaherty has a 2.08 ERA despite a shaky 21:10 K:BB over 17 1/3 frames.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty earned a win with a quality start Thursday afternoon, going six innings and surrendering one run on two hits with four strikeouts against the Cleveland Guardians. Flaherty had been out since June 27th with a lower back injury. The veteran right-hander is now 6-5 on the season with a 3.13 ERA, .98 WHIP, and 119 strikeouts in 95 innings, Speculation is rampant that the Tigers may be looking to shop Flaherty ahead of the trade deadline at the end of this month. Flaherty could be the top starting pitcher available on the trade market.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty (back) received another injection in his back and will skip his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the division-rival Minnesota Twins. Instead, as long as he recovers well from the injection, the 28-year-old appears to be lined up to return to the rotation against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians. It's the second time in the last month that Flaherty has missed a start due to a back problem, which will give contending teams some pause if they consider trading for him at this summer's deadline. Otherwise, Flaherty has been fantastic in a bounce-back 2024 season in Detroit, going 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 115 strikeouts in 89 innings over his 15 starts. He came into Tuesday's action with the third-best strikeout rate in the big leagues.
The Detroit Tigers have gone 32-45 since winning the first five games of the season and will once again be sellers at this summer's trade deadline, shopping right-hander Jack Flaherty, who signed a one-year, $14 million deal this offseason. Flaherty has been a massive value signing for the Tigers while going 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA (3.05 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 115 strikeouts and 14 walks in 89 innings over his 15 starts in what has been a big bounce-back campaign. It only makes sense that they'd try to sell high on Flaherty after building his value back up in the first half of 2024. The 28-year-old did allow three home runs in a loss in his last outing against the Los Angeles Angels, but he still managed to strike out six and currently ranks third in baseball with a 33% strikeout rate. Flaherty landing with a contender for the second half would make him even more valuable in fantasy this year.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty has had an amazing season in 2024, but it wasn't his night on Thursday on the road against the hosting Los Angeles Angels. Flaherty allowed five earned runs on seven hits (season-high three home runs) while walking one and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings of work to even out his record at 5-5 in the loss. Fantasy managers won't be complaining about the seven strikeouts, but it just wasn't Flaherty's night as his season ERA was raised to a still very respectable 3.24. The poor outing snapped the 28-year-old's streak of allowing one run or fewer in four straight starts. Aside the allowing three home runs on Thursday, though, it wasn't a terrible performance. Fantasy managers should still consider Flaherty a must-start given the way he's pitched in 2024. He currently ranks third in baseball with a 33% strikeout rate.
