Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (intercostal) won't be ready to return from a right-intercostal strain when he's eligible to come off the injured list on Tuesday, but he's close to resuming baseball activities. According to head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta, "his symptoms are improving dramatically." The Twins are being somewhat cautious to avoid a months-long absence with Correa given the setback-prone nature of his injury. The 29-year-old landed on the IL on April 13 with a mild intercostal strain. While there currently isn't a timetable for a return, he looks to be on the mend and could return in early May. Willi Castro is serving as the team's primary shortstop for now. Correa will hope to pick up where he left off when he returns, as he's so far hit .306 (11-for-36) with a homer and four RBI in 2024.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (side) is dealing with a mild right intercostal strain. The Twins initially listed Correa's injury as a right oblique strain, but the team changed its diagnosis after he underwent additional imaging. The timeline for Correa will be announced next week. Correa is eligible to come off the injured list on April 22. Willi Castro started at shortstop for Correa in both games of Saturday's doubleheader and should see an uptick in playing time. Castro went for 2-for-8 with a double, two-run homer, a walk, and three runs scored over both games on Saturday. Fantasy managers searching for speed can look to add Castro to most leagues after he stole 34 bases in 2023.
Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said following Friday's loss to the Detroit Tigers that shortstop Carlos Correa (oblique) is expected to wind up on the injured list. Correa is heading for imaging after suffering a strained right oblique on Friday against the Tigers, and the club will know more about his status on Saturday. It's another hit to a Twins lineup that's already struggling to produce runs without the dynamic Royce Lewis (quad), as the 29-year-old former All-Star was slashing a robust .306/.432/.444 with one home run, two doubles, and four RBI over 36 at-bats (11 games) to begin the season. With No. 2 prospect Brooks Lee (back) currently out of action, Minnesota appears to be down to veterans Kyle Farmer and Willi Castro at short in the meantime. Farmer is 1-for-16 and Castro is 3-for-29 so far this year, so fantasy managers can certainly find better infielder options on waiver wires.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (oblique) exited early in Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers with a right oblique strain. Correa grabbed his right side after striking out during his second at-bat in the top of the third inning. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before exiting. The severity of Correa's injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. Willi Castro replaced him in Friday's game. Considering Correa is dealing with an oblique injury, the veteran shortstop could likely land on the injured list. Kyle Farmer should see an uptick in playing time while Correa is sidelined. Farmer is off to a slow start this season and has yet to collect a hit over 18 plate appearances in seven games in 2024. The 33-year-old is a speculative add in deep-league formats if Correa is forced to miss any time.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa hit his first home run of the spring on Monday in a 5-2 Grapefruit League win over the Red Sox. It was a solo shot off of Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta, and Correa finished the day 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and one run scored. On the spring, the 2x All-Star is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with a home run, three RBI, and four runs scored. The 29-year-old played through injury for most of last season, but is now healthy heading into 2024. While he's well outside the top-12 SS for fantasy, he could very well be a value pick at the end of drafts as he should easily improve on last year's numbers and outperform his NFBC ADP of 244.
