St. Louis Cardinals utility man Brendan Donovan (neck) is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Donovan has missed the previous two games due to stiffness in his neck. Alec Burleson will start in left field and bat second for the Cardinals while Matt Carpenter will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth. Donovan is considered day-to-day for now and will have a chance to return for Monday's game against the Houston Astros.
St. Louis Cardinals infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan (neck) remains out of the starting lineup for a second consecutive day with neck stiffness. As a result, Alec Burleson will play in left field this evening and bat in the six-hole. Donovan, who is typically in the lead-off spot, will cede those duties to young shortstop Masyn Winn, who was riding an incredible 16-game hitting streak through most of May. Donovan should be considered day-to-day for the time being and could return to the lineup on Sunday. Both Burleson and Winn have a difficult matchup in southpaw Ranger Suarez, who enters Saturday with a stellar 1.75 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 16:77 BB:K ratio and should be faded in DFS.
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan (neck) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 27-year-old is considered as day-to-day due to neck stiffness. This doesn't sound like the type of issue that would force Donovan onto the injured list. Dylan Carlson will take his place in the lineup and bat eighth versus right-hander Aaron Nola. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Donovan sitting out.
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Brendan Donovan and second baseman Nolan Gorman are both out of the lineup on Friday with the team facing Milwaukee Brewers rookie left-hander Robert Gasser, who is making his major-league debut. Rookie Michael Siani is starting in center field and is batting ninth, while Jose Fermin is at second base and hitting leadoff for the Cardinals on Friday night. Donovan has struggled so far this year, hitting .217 (31-for-143) with four homers and 19 RBI. Gorman has been even worse, slashing .172/.256/.319 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 116 at-bats. Fermin will be a deep DFS sleeper on Friday night out of the leadoff spot. The 25-year-old Dominican has three hits in only 11 at-bats in eight games this year after making his MLB debut in 2023.
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Brendan Donovan (elbow) is starting in left field and batting leadoff on Saturday against left-hander Trevor Rogers and the Miami Marlins for the second game of the series. With Donovan back in the leadoff spot, rookie outfielder Victor Scott II will drop down to the nine-hole. Donovan was hit by two pitches in Wednesday's loss to the San Diego Padres and was subsequently held out of the lineup for the home opener against the Fish on Thursday. But the 27-year-old is back in there on Saturday and is looking to keep up his hot-hitting ways to begin the 2024 season. So far through seven games, he's gone 8-for-26 (.308) with a homer, two doubles, six RBI and six runs scored. Donovan has never faced Rogers in his career, though.
