According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, third baseman Alex Bregmanwent through his first workout as a member of the Boston Red Sox. The third baseman took part in batting practice and fielding drills. Manager Alex Cora noted that Bregman is a Gold Glove third baseman and could be a "Gold Glove second baseman" if he shifts to that position as well. When Bregman initially signed his three-year deal with the Red Sox, there was speculation he would move to the keystone, as Rafael Devers is already the team's third baseman. However, given the emergence of second base prospect Kristian Campbell, Bregman may be deployed at several positions throughout the season. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during spring training, as he could see his fantasy value increase if he were to pick up multi-positional eligibility. Last summer, he posted a .260/.315/.453 slash line with 26 home runs with the Astros.

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Bregman will see opportunities at several positions in the infield. Cotillo noted that Bregman has already begun to see work at second base and shortstop during his first day of camp. Cotillo noted that the original assumption was that Bregman was viewed as the everyday second baseman when he signed with the Red Sox, as Rafael Devers has covered the hot corner throughout his career in Boston. However, given the team's "enthusiasm" for second base prospect Kristian Campbell, Bregman could be shifted around the infield. If Campbell were to perform well in spring training, Bregman could see action at both the keystone and hot corner, which would then move Devers to the DH spot. This would then move Masataka Yoshida to the outfield, as he was the designated hitter throughout most of the 2024 season. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring Campbell's development during spring training, as he will significantly impact the team's depth chart. Bregman could see his fantasy value increase considerably if he picks up additional positional eligibility.

ESPN's Buster Olney writes that free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman is likely to sign with either the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs or Detroit Tigers soon. Sources with the Houston Astros are skeptical he'll re-sign. If Bregman chooses the Red Sox, he could be moved to second base. The 30-year-old is the last big remaining free agent still on the open market with teams reporting to spring training later this week. For fantasy purposes, the aging veteran would fit best at either Fenway Park or Wrigley Field, and a signing in Detroit would indicate that the Tigers are going all-in after surprisingly making the postseason last year. If he signs with the Cubs or Tigers, he'll likely remain at the hot corner. Without knowing yet where Bregman will be playing in 2025, RotoBaller has Bregman ranked just inside the top-15 fantasy third basemen.

According to Ari Alexander of KPRC2, the Houston Astros have increased their initial offer to free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman. However, Alexander noted that this improved offer is "unlikely" to get the job done. The Astros have shown significant interest in re-signing Bregman even after trading for third baseman Isaac Paredes. If Bregman were to return to Houston, Jose Altuve would move to left field, opening up the keystone for Paredes. In addition, the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays have also shown significant interest in signing Bregman. Last season, Breman played his ninth campaign as a Houston Astro. He posted a .260/.315/.453 line with 30 doubles and 26 home runs. He showed an elite eye at the plate, striking out at a stellar 13.6 percent rate. Fantasy managers should view Bregman as a high-floor third baseman heading into the 2025 season.

According to sources, the Chicago Cubs have offered free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman a four-year contract worth north of $100 million that includes opt-out clauses. In addition to the Cubs, the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros remain potential landing spots for the two-time All-Star. After trading away third baseman Isaac Paredes this offseason in the deal that landed them All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker, the Cubs certainly have an opening at third base, although the expectation is that Matt Shaw is the leading contender for the majority of playing time at the hot corner to open the 2025 season. If the 30-year-old Bregman were to accept Chicago's offer, he'd immediately become the team's starter at third and provide another experienced bat in the middle of the lineup after hitting 20-plus homers each of the last three seasons. He's currently ranked as the No. 14 fantasy third baseman at RotoBaller.
