The Colorado Rockies optioned second base prospect Adael Amador to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, according to MLB.com. Amador, one of the team's top prospects, will head back to the farm for more seasoning after going 13-for-89 (.146) with a homer, four doubles, five RBI, three runs scored, one steal, 10 walks and 25 strikeouts in 102 trips to the plate over 33 games for the Rockies this year after making his MLB debut in 2024 and playing in just 10 games. The 22-year-old could certainly use more development with the Isotopes after playing in just 10 games at the Triple-A level before his call-up. If he can put it all together when he eventually returns to the big leagues, Amador has the plate discipline and skills to be a 20-homer asset at Coors Field while also hitting for average. Amador will go down to make room for the return of Thairo Estrada (wrist), who will become the regular at second base in Denver.

Aaron Schunk is at the keystone and is hitting eighth, Kyle Farmer is playing first base and batting seventh, and Tyler Freeman is in right field and in the six-hole. Freeman is the only one of the trio that has faced Suarez in his career, and he's gone hitless in seven at-bats. Amador will take a seat after starting each of the last six games. The young infielder has hit just .158 (12-for-76) with a homer and steal as the regular second baseman. The switch-hitting Toglia will sit for a second straight game and could continue to lose more playing time while leading the league with 71 strikeouts in 166 at-bats.

The speedy protect just turned 22 earlier this month, and still has plenty of upside, but he may not be able to hold on to a full-time role if he scuffles like he did before Saturday's breakout. Amador is up to .214 after his three-hit performance, and he has shown good speed potential in the minors with 35 thefts in 100 games at Double-A last year. If he gets playing time, he could develop into a bargain DFS play with upside, but the Rockies could send him back to Triple-A for more seasoning

The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports that Colorado Rockies second base prospect Adael Amador will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque for Sunday's series finale at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres, according to a source. The corresponding roster move will likely be outfielder Tyler Freeman (oblique) going on the 10-day injured list after he was scratched from Saturday's lineup after tweaking his oblique in the batting cage. The 22-year-old Amador is considered Colorado's No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and will hopefully boost what has been a dormant Rockies offense early in 2025. He was hitting .275/.408/.450 with two homers, fur RBI, three steals and nine runs in 49 plate appearances at Triple-A. Amador should see regular playing time at second for the Rockies. Although he hit just .171 in his MLB debut last year, it was in just 10 games. His power/speed upside could play immediately in mixed fantasy leagues.

Amador was having a nice spring, going 8-for-27 (.296) with nine RBI, five runs scored, and an 8:5 BB:K. The switch-hitter is Colorado's seventh-ranked prospect and offers a blend of power and speed. Last season at Double-A, he hit 14 home runs and stole 35 bases in 100 games. Romo got off to a cold start this spring, going 2-for-17 (.118) along with a 1:4 BB:K. The Rockies' 11th-ranked prospect will head back to Triple-A, where he hit .297 with 14 home runs last season. Both had a taste of the majors in 2024, albeit with little success, but Amador offers the better fantasy profile of the two and is likelier to get back to the big leagues sooner, maybe even before summer.
