St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said the club is evaluating the rehabilitation plan for outfielder/infielder Tommy Edman, who is still experiencing pain in his surgically-repaired right wrist. More clarity is coming later on Saturday, Marmol said. Edman spent nearly a month on the injured list in 2023 due to right wrist inflammation and underwent arthroscopic wrist surgery last October, having not yet appeared in any spring training games thus far. The 28-year-old switch hitter appears likely to open 2024 on the injured list at this point, so fantasy managers should start thinking about fading Edman until his 176.7 Yahoo ADP comes down a bit, despite the speedy Gold Glover tallying 40 combined homers and stolen bases in 2023. Until Brendan Donovan starts playing on defense, St. Louis' outfield should feature Alec Burleson, Dylan Carlson, and Jordan Walker from left to right to begin the campaign if Edman isn't ready to go.

Houston Astros first baseman Jose Abreu (knee) is dealing with right knee soreness from his sliding attempt on a foul ball during Thursday's spring training win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Jupiter. Manager Joe Espada said Abreu will rest for a few days but that there are "no concerns." This issue sounds to be minor, so Abreu should be back in Houston's lineup in short order. The 37-year-old 2020 American League MVP looked to be a shell of himself during most of the first season of a three-year deal with the Astros, but in his final 26 games of the campaign, Abreu managed to hit .237 with an .835 OPS, seven home runs, six doubles, and 28 RBI over his closing 97 at-bats. After also batting .295 with a .945 OPS in 44 postseason ABs, the late-season surge gives the veteran slugger some late-round life in 2024 fantasy drafts.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins (hamstring) continues to progress and is still on track to return to spring training games next week, according to manager Brandon Hyde. After leaving Monday's Grapefruit League loss to the Minnesota Twins due discomfort in his right hamstring, Mullins' precautionary MRI came back negative, so this continues to seem like a day-to-day problem. His status for Baltimore's home opener on March 28 versus the Los Angeles Angels doesn't appear to be in any kind of jeopardy. The 29-year-old speedy slugger has regressed following his 2021 Silver Slugger run, but after smacking 15 home runs and swiping 19 bases through only 116 outings last year, Mullins still offers plenty of power and speed upside in the early-double-digit rounds of upcoming fantasy drafts as the everyday O's leadoff man in 2024.

Minnesota Twins second baseman Edouard Julien (wrist) left the visitors' clubhouse at LECOM Park with his right wrist wrapped up after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of Friday's spring training loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but the team has no initial concerns about his health. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli and a team trainer went to first base to check on Julien but left him in the game. Once back in the dugout, Julien was replaced in the field by Michael Helman in the bottom of the frame. Julien's ability to stay in the contest echoes the club's sentiment that the Canadian infielder's setback is of minimal concern. Following the offseason trade of Jorge Polanco, Julien is locked into Minnesota's everyday role at the keystone and is slashing a robust .421/.476/.789 over 21 plate appearances this spring. Don't let this recent injury influence the 24-year-old's 217.9 Yahoo ADP in fantasy drafts.

An MRI on Friday showed that Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung's (calf) left calf is improving, but not enough for the team to let him ramp up his running program. Although Jung is participating in other baseball activities, the fact that he's still not running three weeks removed from a strained left calf means his availability is legitimately threatened for Texas' regular-season opener on March 28 at home versus the Chicago Cubs. Although the 26-year-old former first-round pick garnered All-Star honors during in his first full year in the big leagues in 2023, he fizzled down the stretch with a .196/.241/.275 triple-slash line, one home run, and three RBI in 51 at-bats across September and October after returning from a fractured left thumb. But after hitting .308 with an .867 OPS in 17 postseason games for the World Series-champion Rangers, Jung's 102.5 Yahoo ADP is certainly enticing, despite the injury.
