The Texas Rangers have signed free-agent reliever Jonathan Holder to a minor-league deal and have invited him to big-league spring training. The 30-year-old has not appeared in the big leagues since the shortened 2020 season when he worked to a 4.98 ERA across 18 appearances with the Yankees. Holder pitched just 23 minor-league innings from 2021-2022 due to an undisclosed injury before latching on with the Angels in 2023. He spent the entire season with Triple-A Salt Lake in 2023, posting a 5.40 ERA across 46 outings, five of which were starts. The right-hander does have a pair of sub-4.00 ERA seasons on his big-league resume and sports a 4.38 career ERA across 157 appearances and 176 2/3 innings of work. He is likeliest to serve as bullpen depth for the Rangers in 2024.

The Cleveland Guardians signed free-agent right-hander Tyler Zuber to a minor-league deal on Wednesday that includes a non-roster invite to major-league spring training. Zuber made 54 appearances out of the Kansas City Royals' bullpen in 2020 and 2021 and spent last year in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization following shoulder surgery in 2022. The 28-year-old reliever will give the Guardians some extra right-handed relief depth to open up the 2024 season but can be ignored everywhere in fantasy. In 20 2/3 innings at Triple-A Reno in 2023, he had a 5.23 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 10 walks. In his two seasons with the Royals, Zuber posted a 5.29 ERA, 55 strikeouts and 37 walks in 49 1/3 relief innings. Expect him to open the year with Triple-A Columbus.

Free-agent infielder Joe Dunand signed a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. Dunand made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Miami Marlins but played in only three games and went 3-for-10 with a home run, double, RBI and two runs scored. He spent all of the 2023 season in the minors with the Atlanta Braves and slashed .268/.362/.481 with an .844 OPS, 17 home runs, 19 doubles, two triples, 52 RBI, three stolen bases and 49 runs scored in 95 contests for Triple-A Gwinnett. The 28-year-old infielder will almost certainly begin the 2024 season at Triple-A Worcester while providing the Red Sox with infield depth at multiple positions.

Free-agent right-hander Robert Gsellman signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. He'd make $900,000 if he's in the majors in 2024. Gsellman spent last year pitching in Japan, where he posted a 4.32 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 139 2/3 innings pitched. In 2022 with the Chicago Cubs, he only pitched 15 1/3 innings at the major-league level and allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 17 hits (two homers) while walking three and striking out nine. In parts of seven major-league seasons, Gsellman has a 4.60 ERA (4.30 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 15 saves, 126 walks and 289 strikeouts in 366 innings over 184 appearances (34 starts) for the Cubs and New York Mets. The 30-year-old will most likely begin the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Rochester and give Washington some minor-league relief depth to open the year.

The Minnesota Twins are looking to add a right-handed bat with the money they freed up by trading second baseman Jorge Polanco to the Seattle Mariners earlier this week, and veteran free-agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez could be the right fit. Martinez's production slipped a bit rom his peak and last year's jump in strikeout rate was worrisome, but the 35-year-old is a six-time All-Star and still hit 30-plus homers and drove in over 100 runs with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. His 134 OPS+ would have led Twins hitters with at least 100 games and he should be available for something similar to the one-year, $10 million deal he signed last offseason. Martinez still has power, but he's an injury risk for fantasy managers with no positional flexibility. In addition to Martinez, the Twins could also consider Jorge Soler, Michael A. Taylor, Adam Duvall, Tommy Pham and others.
