Shohei Ohtani Swats Home Run, Steals Base Monday Night

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani did it all Monday night, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a sac fly, and a stolen base in a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. This was a potential 2024 National League Championship Series matchup that did not disappoint. Ohtani tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a sac fly before coming around and scoring on a Teoscar Hernandez home run. Ohtani then proceeded to hit a home run of his very own in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Dodgers an insurance run heading to the ninth inning. There's not much else to say about Ohtani that hasn't been said already, but the NL MVP favorite just recorded his first 30/30 season (34 HR, 32 SB). With two months left in the year, the likelihood is that he will reach the 40/40 mark for the first time in his career.

JP Sears Strikes Out Five In Monday's Win

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears (9-8) recorded his ninth win and logged a quality start while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a 4-1 win against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Sears' 4.35 ERA is nothing to write home about, but with the A's offense significantly improving from last season, the run support has been much better than last year at the Coliseum. The 28-year-old is sizzling this summer with a 3.07 ERA in July and is off to a great start in August after handing the White Sox their 21st straight loss. His next start won't be easy, as the A's head across the Northern border to face the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend.

Justin Martinez Picks Up First Save Of The Season

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Justin Martinez picked up his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning win against the Cleveland Guardians. After the recent struggles of relief pitcher Paul Sewald, the closer job is there for the taking in the desert. Martinez received his first opportunity after Ryan Thompson blew the save Monday, allowing one run in one inning after surrendering a triple to catcher Bo Naylor followed by a sac fly. The 23-year-old allowed one walk and two strikeouts to record the second save of his career. It may not be apparent for a bit who will cement their feet into the closer role for the Diamondbacks, but after Monday's game, Martinez gave himself a leg up on the competition.

Joc Pederson Smacks Pinch-Hit Go-Ahead Homer Monday

Arizona Diamondbacks designated hitter Joc Pederson smacked a pinch-hit go-ahead homer Monday night in a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Cleveland Guardians. Pederson entered the game in the top of the eighth inning with a runner on first with one out. Pinch-hitting for Kevin Newman, Pederson took advantage of a full-count hanging curveball to give the Diamondbacks the lead. The veteran started the game on the bench with a southpaw on the mound, entered the contest in a big moment, and came up clutch for the Snakes. The lefty slugger is scorching hot at the plate in August with a 4-for-10 line with three home runs and seven RBI. Despite the platoon, he is having one of his best seasons ever, and his .285 batting average would be the highest of his career if the season ended today. Despite being in a platoon, Pederson is putting up enough numbers in the limited playing time he's receiving to make him worth rostering in most leagues.

Ketel Marte Hits 28th Home Run On Monday

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte blasted a solo home run, his 28th of the season, Monday night in a 7-6 extra-inning victory versus the Cleveland Guardians. Marte wasted no time on Monday chasing the first pitch of the game from Logan Allen and dropping it over the fence. The switch-hitting veteran's power surge continues as tonight's home run makes it 11 long balls in the last month. He is also well on pace to break his single-season career-high in home runs (32) and RBI (92). The 30-year-old is in the midst of a career year and was undoubtedly one of the best bargains in fantasy drafts this season.
