Rich Hill Joins Big-League Roster

The Boston Red Sox recalled veteran left-hander Rich Hill from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. The club also recalled pitcher Greg Weissert and placed pitcher Lucas Sims (lat) on the 15-day injured list with a lat strain and designated right-hander Brad Keller for assignment. Hill returns to the big leagues after throwing two scoreless innings in his only outing on the farm for Worcester. The 44-year-old southpaw doesn't have much left at this point in his career and is off the fantasy radar with an expected role coming out of Boston's bullpen. The 19-year MLB veteran went 8-14 with a 5.41 ERA (4.87 FIP), a 1.52 WHIP, 129 strikeouts and 58 walks in 146 1/3 innings over 32 appearances (27 starts) in 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres. Hill is likely to work in more of a mop-up, long-relief role in Boston.

Bryan Ramos Optioned, John Brebbia Designated For Assignment

The Chicago White Sox optioned infield prospect Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday and also designated right-handed reliever John Brebbia for assignment. Ramos will head right back to Charlotte after being recalled on Monday to make room for Jacob Amaya, who was claimed off waivers from Houston. Ramos, the team's No. 13 prospect per MLB Pipeline, played in his first 15 big-league games earlier this year and went only 9-for-46 (.196) with two doubles, two RBI and eight strikeouts in 48 plate appearances. The 22-year-old should see more run in the big leagues in 2025 for his right-handed power stroke. Brebbia gets removed from the 40-man roster after posting a rough 6.29 ERA in 54 appearances for the Pale Hose this year, although he did pick up two saves and 13 holds in the process for a terrible White Sox bullpen.

Yoan Moncada, Michael Soroka Begin Rehab Assignments On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) and right-hander Michael Soroka (shoulder) started their minor-league rehab assignments at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night, according to the team. Moncada will be restarting his rehab assignment after suffering a setback after five games in early July. The 29-year-old Cuban last played with the White Sox in early April, so he's at least going to need a handful of games on the farm to get his timing back. Moncada will probably be eased back in at third base when he returns in September, making him pretty unattractive in mixed fantasy leagues while playing for the worst team in baseball. Soroka should also be left to the waiver wire in most formats upon his return. The 27-year-old has been out since the All-Star break with a strained right shoulder and didn't look any good earlier this year in Chicago's rotation.

Reds Recall Rece Hinds From Triple-A

The Cincinnati Reds recalled outfield prospect Rece Hinds from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and placed outfielder Stuart Fairchild (thumb) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 26) in a corresponding move with a left-thumb sprain. The 23-year-old Hinds, who is the team's No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline, did not start in Tuesday's contest against the Oakland Athletics, and he'll most likely serve in a reserve role in his second MLB stint. He took major-league baseball by storm upon his initial call-up, going 11-for-22 with five home runs, three doubles, a triple, 11 RBI and two steals in his first six games before 1-for-16 with a double and five strikeouts in his ensuing four games before being sent back to Louisville. All of his 10 starts came in right field, so if anything, Hinds may be on the short side of a platoon against lefties in his return.

Jake Fraley On Track To Return This Saturday

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) is on track to return from the 10-day injured when he's first eligible this Saturday. "He's still on track to get back the day he's available to come back. He had a knee sprain. He had a couple issues in there. Whatever they were able to give to him to help calm that down could help him get back hitting by the end of the week. The 31st is the first day he's eligible to come back," Bell said. Fraley will return to the strong side of a platoon in right field for the Reds against right-handed pitching, giving him some value in deeper fantasy leagues, mainly for his speed. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has been battling various injuries for most of 2024 and has hit .271 (74-for-273) with 16 steals but only three homers and 23 RBI in 92 games played. He's hit .233 (10-for-43) with two doubles, four RBI, two steals and 11 K's in 14 games in August.
