Chicago Cubs third baseman Isaac Paredes (shoulder) was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to right shoulder discomfort, according to Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network. As a result, Patrick Wisdom will get the call to cover the hot corner and will bat in the eight-hole. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates on Paredes as he may need to sit out a few days next week depending on the severity of the injury. In the meantime, Wisdom should be the favorite to see a majority of the starting opportunities at third base on the Northside. Wisdom could be a sneaky play in DFS this afternoon as he will face Toronto right-hander Bowden Francis, who has posted a 4.92 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP, bouncing between a starting role and the bullpen this summer.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) has been activated off the 10-day injured list on Sunday. Jones appears to be ready to play again after missing a month of action due to a lower back strain. The young slugger is having a disappointing 2024 campaign after hitting .297 with 20 homers last season in Colorado. Now, Jones is barely hitting .200 with only three long balls and 14 RBI in 49 games this season. Despite that, Jones should still get regular playing time down the stretch on this rebuilding Rockies roster. In a corresponding move, infielder/outfielder Hunter Goodman has been optioned to Triple-A with Jones being activated.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (neck) is currently scheduled to take the ball against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The 41-year-old has been sidelined since mid-June due to a neck issue. Verlander looked good during his most recent rehab start at Double-A Corpus Christi on Thursday. It sounds like Verlander is ready to return after his bullpen session on Sunday went well. He holds a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, with 51 strikeouts across 10 starts this season. Verlander isn't the same pitcher he once was, but he should still be an asset in most fantasy formats.

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (wrist, ankle) is set to make his return from the injured list on Monday. Edman is finally ready to make his season debut after missing a majority of the season due to multiple injuries. The 29-year-old can play all over the field but is expected to mainly play in center field for the Dodgers. Kevin Kiermaier has been playing a lot of center field lately, so he's likely going to slide into a bench role. Edman has been pretty reliable on offense and should be an asset in most fantasy formats.

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (oblique) is expected to be activated off the injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. This is a welcoming sight for the Dodgers who could use a boost of offense with Freddie Freeman (finger) being sidelined right now. It's worth noting that Muncy took grounders at first base ahead of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 33-year-old primarily plays third base but he could see some action at first base until Freeman returns. Muncy is slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 40 games this season. The boost of power will be a nice addition to this lineup.
