Welcome to the prop bet tracker. As MLB season gets into high gear, another way to get in on the action is to analyze the day’s best prop bets – from strikeouts to home runs, first to five runs to total bases logged.
Each day, we will try and identify a few picks that are ready to explode in the prop market.
Zach Plesac Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-137, BetRivers)
Quietly, after a very rough start, Plesac has leaned heavily on a breaker to get some new results. Has it worked? You bet. He's been working deep into games, including eight sparkling innings last time, and now he faces a Seattle team that ranks sixth-worst in strikeout rate (27.6%). He will deal with the call-up of Jarred Kelenic, but Plesac should be OK.
Luis Castillo Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-137, FanDuel)
This offseason, I was a massive believer in Castillo taking a major leap forward in 2021, but man, has that not happened yet. In 33.2 IP, Castillo has struggled for a 6.42 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, and he hasn't struck out over five batters in any of his last five outings. This Colorado offense isn't great, but it is the ninth-hardest team to strikeout.
Jesse Winker to Hit a Home Run (+450, William Hill)
While Coors is truly a hitting haven not because of the massive home runs, but because of the park's spaciousness, which truly drives run scoring up, Winker has been on an absolute tear to begin the 2021 season. He's hitting .375 this season, slugging his way to seven home runs. And the opposing starter, Chi Chi González, has posted a 5.97 ERA over 28.2 innings pitched.
