After the weirdest MLB season on record, we have finally made it to the World Series. Daily fantasy baseball comes along with it, and we’ll be breaking down the day’s DFS slate for each game of the Fall Classic. Now, with postseason, that brings smaller tournaments and smaller slates. More game theory will come into play. But with baseball being a very high-variance sport, most times you’ll find my plays to tend toward the contrarian, hence the article’s name.
Going with a contrarian lineup strategy especially in showdown slates is a high-risk endeavor in fantasy sports, but with the potential for a high reward attached to it at the same time. When it hits, it can be the way to big success, because (obviously) not many DFS players will be on those options, making it easier to differentiate yourself and your plays.
(All pricing refers to DraftKings.)
Captain options
Cody Bellinger ($13,200)
Bellinger got the best of Glasnow in Game 1, ripping a two-run homer. The pricing on DraftKings is very favorite to stack LA's Nos. 4, 5 and 6 hitters.
Max Muncy ($13,500)
Muncy has hit .333 through four games in this series, and is 3-7 in the last two games. He's yet to homer, but his contact has been extremely hard.
Yandy Díaz ($7,500)
Diaz is a career .290 hitter against left-handed pitchers, and .265 overall this year. Anytime we can get a guy with the salary relief in the leadoff spot we have to take advantage.
Utility options
Will Smith ($8,200, hitting 5th) — Smith is the key to this LA stack with Bellinger and Muncy. If you arrange these six players correct, you can get them all to fit.
Kevin Kiermaier ($5,200, hitting 8th)
Randy Arozarena ($9,200, hitting 2nd)
