There are some changes to announce for the future of the Bullpen Report. The written articles will change from a weekly schedule to bi-weekly. With a fortnight between articles, I’m considering some different formats to allow for coverage of a greater number of team news and notes. This week will follow the normal format of digging deeper into the timeliest information from a smaller number of teams.

The good news is that the Bullpen Report podcast remains semi-weekly, Tuesdays and Saturdays. If you haven’t heard a podcast episode yet, they’re an easy listen at around 15 minutes long. Tuesday episodes are essentially the audio version of this article, with mostly overlapping material. Saturday episodes look ahead at pitchers relevant for weekend free agency bidding on the NFBC and other platforms. The pod is part of the regular FTN Fantasy Baseball podcast with Vlad and Jason Anthony. I’ve carved out a few days a week to bring bullpen news and analysis, so give it a listen!

Team Bullpen Summaries with the saves and holds totals will return June 18.

News and Notes

Arizona Diamondbacks

Justin Martinez made his long-awaited return to the ninth inning Sunday and converted a perfect save with two strikeouts. Shelby Miller set him up with a scoreless eighth inning. Miller converted another eighth-inning hold Tuesday night, but the Diamondbacks scored some extra runs before the ninth, and Martinez was spared the dreaded non-save situation.

At this point, we can assume Martinez is fully entrenched as the closer again. A.J. Puk is rehabbing from his elbow injury and has plenty of hurdles to clear before he can grapple with Martinez for ninth-inning duties. While Puk is worth a stash for those whose league format allows it, Arizona’s pen is the Justin Martinez Show for the foreseeable future. Miller can be dropped in all but the deepest leagues, or those that count holds.
