Bauer’s recent comments regarding unwritten rules about hitter showmanship are spot on. When a dude crushes your poorly placed 95 mph fastball into the left-field bleachers he deserves to stare, bat flip and/or flamboyantly galivant around the bases. The same should apply for pitchers, especially those who gain the upper hand in a high-leverage situation. The Dodgers’ ace, who signed for the approximate amount Jeff Bezos makes taking a leak (understand, that’s a mountain of money), is likely to have a trash-talking advantage Thursday at Miller Park. Down Christian Yelich, the free-swinging Brewers rank No. 3 in total K%, whiffing 28.3% of the time. His exceptional fastball/slider combination and impeccable command (1.69 BB/9) explain why he ranks No. 6 in the MLB in called plus swinging strike rate (34.0). With nine or more Ks in four of his first five 2021 starts, he’s in a terrific position to again pile up the punchouts.
