Oakland Athletics @ Seattle Mariners 

Athletics +240 @ Mariners -305 – Total 8 (Caesars)

The Mariners are the hottest team in baseball, as they’ve won 12 of their last 13 games and sit in first place in the American League West. Their offense has been absolutely raking – especially when facing left-handed pitching. Seattle’s slashing .329/.410/.550 against southpaws over the last 30 days with a 170 wRC+ and .411 wOBA. The M’s have gone over this number in 11 of their last 14 games, while averaging 7.35 runs in that stretch. Over the last 14 days, the Mariners lead the majors with 30 dongs, .327 batting average, .415 on-base percentage and an OPS of .995. The Mariners also rank first in slugging percentage and home runs against fastballs since the All-Star break at .589 and 29, respectively. They’ll be facing an arm that throws his fastball 54.2% of the time, with minimal success. 

On the bump, the M’s will be going up against A’s southpaw Ken Waldichuk. Waldichuk makes his 19th start of the 2023 season Tuesday evening as the A’s are in Seattle to play in T-Mobile Park. It’s the same to assume the lefty wishes he was back in the Oakland bullpen, where he posted a 3.67 FIP. As a starter, the 25-year-old has a 6.18 FIP, with a .395 wOBA. Hitters are slashing .287/.372/.563 off Waldichuk when he starts. I mentioned the Mariners success against the fastball and Waldichuk’s fastball usage above. Hitters have been teeing off on his four-seamer which has a run value of negative-six. Batters have a .293 batting average against and slugging .520 against that offering. 

Things won’t get easier for Mark Kotsay and the A’s after he makes a call to the pen. The Oakland bullpen has the highest ERA and SIERA at 5.40 and 4.77, respectively. The A’s 4.87 FIP ranks second worst in the Show. 

I’m projecting Waldichuk to go about five innings Tuesday and allow three or four runs before giving way to the A’s bullpen. Frank Brank’s MLB Model likes Seattle today as well, as he has the M’s projected for 4.9 runs. Use the FTN Prop Shop to ensure you’re betting the best number available.
