The Mets’ offense let us down Thursday as they got shut out against the Reds, but let’s get back on track with a strikeout prop this Saturday afternoon. This number has already moved up at some books — so I’ll make this quick.
No team is striking out more against right-handed pitchers than the A’s this season, as they sit at 25.8% through 40 games. Over the last two weeks, Oakland has continued their free-swinging ways and their K% has actually increased to 27.9%. The A’s have the fifth-highest swinging strike percentage in baseball and the third-highest called-strike percentage — .1% outside of the top spot. Oakland’s 56.3 O-Contact% (contact on pitches outside the strike zone) ranks dead last in the majors this season and their 9.3 strikeouts per game is the third most in MLB.
Jon Gray looks like he’s fully recovered after he was hit with a comebacker last month. The righty thought he broke his arm, and I think that might have something to do with his low strikeout numbers this season. But in his last start, Gray totaled eight strikeouts against the Mariners with a ridiculous 21.1% swinging-strike percentage.
Gray’s strikeout prop should have opened at 6.5 against this A’s club but we’ll gladly bet the over on any 5.5’s out there, as I have him projected for over six K’s.
