College Football Week 6 Preview: Spots to Target

It’s Week 6 of the college football season, and there are spots to target when wagering. There are several categories of spots, whether it be the sandwich (two tough games around an easy one) or a look-ahead spot (team has a larger matchup next week and an easy one it could sleepwalk through ahead).

You could also add teams coming off bad losses who are ready to beat up their next opponent. With that, let’s take a look at the top spots for Week 6.

All odds from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Letdown Spot

UCF @ Kansas

4 p.m. ET
Kansas -3

The Golden Knights were well on their way to a win over Baylor when they brought a 35-10 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bears then erupted for 26 straight points and stole a 36-35 victory in the Bounce House. Now UCF has to pick up the pieces and head to Kansas to take on a Jayhawks team fresh off a loss to Texas. We’ll see if Jalon Daniels is available for this one, but one has to wonder what the road team has in terms of motivation after the tough loss and a bye week on October 14. Kansas may be worth a look here.

Look-Ahead Spot

Notre Dame @ Louisville

7:30 p.m. ET
Notre Dame -6.5

The last two weeks, Notre Dame lost in the final seconds to Ohio State and then got a late touchdown to beat Duke in front of College Gameday. The Fighting Irish host USC in a large contest on October 14, and stuck in between all of that is a road trip to Louisville. The Cardinals are 5-0 this season, yet none of their wins are all that spectacular. The stadium will be juiced, and if the Irish look ahead at all, they could get their second loss of the season to dash their national title hopes.

Sandwich Spot

Arizona @ USC

10:30 p.m. ET
USC -22

The Trojans may have started their letdown in the fourth quarter in Week 5, as they nearly lost to Colorado 48-41 in a high-profile contest. They also have a road trip to Notre Dame on October 14, and stuck in between is the Arizona Wildcats. USC has played three straight single-digit games against the Wildcats, and Arizona is coming off a hard-fought tilt at home against Washington. This one should see plenty of points, as all of the Trojans games have seen so far.

Blowout Spot

UTSA @ Temple

2 p.m. ET
UTSA -13

The Roadrunners begin their first conference schedule in the AAC with a road game at Temple on Saturday. UTSA has had two weeks to try to get healthy after a rough 1-3 start to the year. It’s imperative that Frank Harris returns, because he makes this offense go. The defensive struggles the last two games are a concern, but Temple is a one-dimensional team that lives by the pass. The Owls have given up 35 or more to three of their last four opponents. I think this is a game where we see the real Roadrunners even on the road.

Sleepy Spot

Toledo @ UMass

Noon ET
Toledo -19.5

Toledo is coming off an emotional win over Northern Illinois. It’s not quite a sandwich with a road trip to Ball State ahead of the Rockets, but there’s definitely a chance they sleepwalk a bit through this one against UMass. Toledo has destroyed the Minutemen 55-10 and 45-7 the last two seasons, so it’s not like they are going to lose, but maybe they aren’t at their best.
